*Consumer Comment: Late Fee Is Not All
Sears charged me a late fee of $39 because I paid my bill online on the due date 4/07 at 2.44pm.They claim that payments paid after 1pm will be credited the next day but fails to mention that they will charge a late fee even though the payment history shows paid on the due date.
For payments made in the store on the due date there is never a late fee regardless of what time it is paid. The satement says that payment after 1pm will be process the next day however it appears nowhere on the payment slip nor is there a mention of late fees.
Someone should put a stop this this action of Sears and have them reimburse all the people they have done this to.

Happened to me as well

Not long ago, I too was literally a day late paying my Sears card bill (my fault) and got hit with the $39 charge.
Usually, if your credit history is really strong, a call and a request to cancel the account is all it takes to get the charge removed. When they ask why, I tell them about the charge; normally, they will credit it back to me (it has only happened a few times through the years).
This time, however, I just paid it off and put the card away; I doubt they will even notice, but at least I know! I only carry one card, but I have several, so at least I know my money will go elsewhere.
BTW, I noticed on the new card I am currently using a new tactic - I got the bill on April 13th and found the date date to be April 27th! It's too bad these guys are so strapped for money that they have to resort to such tactics!

Late Fee Is Not All

Chck your interest rate. One "late" payment and Sears will jack up your interest rate to close to 30%... And WILL NOT back it down. The late fee is not what they are after, a massive interest rate it their true goal.
These people are despicable.
