The short version: This warranty company under-paid my claim with them by $50. More details: This company uses several different third parties (one takes your money, another deals with shipping and receiving, another diagnoses, another repairs, and yet another processes checks). This gives them the opportunity to cause confusion and use scapegoats. After shipping my unit in for repair, as per their specifications, it took a few week for them to provide an update. FInally, after several attempts at contacting them, they said they are unable to repair it and will be sending me a check instead. The check they (one of their third parties) sent however, was for $50 less than my purchase price. My plan required no deductible, and the re-imbursement amount is supposed to cover the purchase price. Additionally, the amount paid for the warranty is based on the purchase price which is a tier above what they paid me (in essence, they overcharged and under-paid).
So I contacted the main company (Securranty). They ignored the emails and tickets (via their online ticket system) I sent. After about a month of not hearing back, I opened a Better Business Bureau (BBB) complaint. Now they responded immediately! This lack of communication on their part continued throughout my communication with them - they only responded whenever I updated the BBB complaint. They had me jump through one hoop after another. Albert (from Securranty) apologized for not receiving my emails and blamed it on his email guy. However, to this day my emails are still unanswered (either he was making excuses, or they still haven't corrected the problem). Next, had me go on a conference call with NewLeaf (one of their third parties). He agreed with me (or pretended to) and said NewLeaf should have re-imbured me fully (so now he's blaming their third party). He said he would call me back with a resolution. Of course I didn't hear back until I updated the BBB complaint. He then called and offered a "dining gift card" instead of the $50. He refused to give me any details about this gift card and basically said I just have to accept it.
Finally he sent me the details and it turned out that all he was offering me was a coupon which has no actual value. Another sneaky maneuver. Next, he offered me a replacement unit of lesser value. This would have been fine had they made that offer initially, but since they said they'd send a check, and at this point it was about 2 months later, so I had already bought a replacement unit. Now, after all this time and after wasting hours of my time with this, their new hoop to jump through is for me to send them a receipt of my new unit. Next, they chose to keep the BBB complaint as unresolved. To recap, they have overcharged me, underpaid me, tried to get away with it using all kinds of sneaky tactics, and wasted many hours of my time.
