Select Home Warrranty Refused claims, I cancelled and they overcharged me everything. Mahwah NJ

I purchased a home warranty that was $1,224 for 3 years of service and 9 months free (total of 45 months).  Which is $34 per month (36 x $34=$1,224). In May and July of 2018 I had 2 claims: 1 for $298 after a month of fighting they paid and 1 for over $700 that they denied and refused to pay.  I finally after waiting over 30 days to receive the reimbursement check for $298.00 cancelled the contract.  The contract clearly states 30 days they didn't even mail my check for 37 or 38 days.

I requested reimbursement for unused months and was told the refund would be $151.07.  I used the service for 14 months which was $476 (14 x $34) they calculated it to be $699.93 (14 x $49.99), and they charged me a $75.00 cancellation fee and then charged me the claim that they paid $298.00.  So they charged me for the time I was under contract ($223.93) and then charged me for the claim ($298) that they paid.  So they double dipped by over charging me for 14 months of service and for a claim that happened during the time I was under contract that they made me pay for.

So another 22 months of service (total of 36 which I paid for) is clearly stated in the contract would have only been $151.07 which was my refund for 22 months of unused service.  If you have a claim under your car insurance they dont charge you for the claim thats why you paid for insurance!  So I have been over charged by $596.93, I dont think there should be a cancellation fee after I used the service for over 1 year. In essence I paid for 14 months of service and all repairs reimbursed.  So they made $1,072.93 for doing absolutely nothing except giving me a false sense of security that I paid them for services I never got.

There are hundreds of complaints against SELECT HOME WARRANTY for denying claims, refusing to pay proper reimbursements, sending unlicensed contractors to do work etc.  Select Home Warranty needs to be shut down. 

An attorney who saw the complaints decided to start a class action lawsuit against them and I was contacted along with a number of others. We all provided contracts, email correspondence, invoices etc.  Then after months of waiting they decided they couldn't make enough money so they dropped the suit.

We as Home Owners purchased warranties in good faith that our claims would be fairly reimbursed.  This company ripped off hundreds of people, Select Home Warranty is still in business and will continue to rip people off.

American Home Shield is so much better and has been very fair with me.
