I contacted an advert on the gumtree saying they needed someone to help out in a gym doing general duties for £11ph. I got a call back that evening and the man said I could interview on the thursday if I was available - When I said I was available he proceeded to tell me that I will need to do training prior to my interview. I told him I wasn't available on the Saturday prior and he proceeded to say that I can do it the following saturday but then my interview would need to be on the following week. I was a bit confused on why I had to do training before an interview but I asked him to email me the details.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got this email:

Hi Jenny

What are the Course Contents?

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an essential life saving skill. It is an

emergency medical procedure for a victim of Cardiac Arrest or in some

circumstances respiratory arrest. CPR is unlikely to restart the heart, but

rather its purpose is to maintain a flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and

the heart. This is essential in delaying tissue death and extending the brief

window of opportunity for a possible resuscitation and thus avoid permanent

brain damage.

Needless to say everyone should possess the necessary skills to prolong life in

an emergency however for those wishing to work as medical professionals, care

workers, dentists, fitness professionals etc.. this is a mandatory requirement

of health and safety in the workplace.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended in 2002) apply to a

wide range of manual handling activities, including lifting, lowering, pushing,

pulling or carrying (the load may be a box, trolley or any other object).

More than a third of all injuries over-three-day reported each year to HSE and

local authorities are caused by manual handling. Manual handling is the

transporting or supporting of loads by hand or by bodily force.

This course run by Select Recruitment has been designed to cover a wide range of

lifting techniques with various items to ensure the risk of injury is

dramatically reduced.

What to Expect on the Day...

A short break shall ensue halfway through your training so you may rest or

eat, there are many beautiful things to see around Canary Wharf.

After your training day, you will be given an attendance certificate when you

pass. If for whatever reasons we are unable to give you you’re Certificates we

shall post it the next working day 2nd Class.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I responded that I would not be interested in this interview any longer because I couldn't afford to pay £200 for the training. He sent me an email back saying that I needed the training to get the job. I eventually got fed up and did some research. I found out that it was a recruitment and training company that had already has a fraud complaint about them please see this link: http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/select-recruitment-and-training-ltd/london-other-ec1n-8p/select-recruitment-and-training-ltd-dont-fall-for-it-total-scam-london-greater-london-1199082

When I email them back I sent them the link and said they should be ashamed of themselves for what they are doing to innocent people looking for work. I left it at that and thought it was over. However it wasn't a man had the audacity to call me the next morning and tell me I was accusing them of something that wasn't true and that I was salty towards them. I asked what the conversion rate was from training to employment and he said it’s none of my business?  I asked him why the advert didn't state training required or a training fee in advance needed and he brushed that off and started harassment towards me- Here is the advert: Displaying image.png

The man started asking me what type of upbringing I had.He stated that I was uneducated and went as far as asking about my mother. when I told him that I had 2 degrees he said that he highly doubts that - THIS WAS HARASSMENT.

Who asks you "what kind of mother do you have to have brought you up like this?" What if I don't have a mother? and all this because I asked about the advert and why it was misleading? He hung up on me after having his say.

This company Harasses people in their own home. I was so very upset that I landed up having an anxiety attack!

I did have the last word though:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Kacy,

I just received an abusive and threatening phone call from a very rude individual asking me what type of upbringing I had.He implied that I was uneducated and went as far as asking about my mother. THIS IS HARASSMENT.

What was the purpose of that call?

This is the most unprofessional company I have had the misfortune of dealing with. I do not believe that it is ethically correct to mislead people into training with job advertisements. No remorse was shown towards the advert when I pointed it out, instead the man called me dear and spoke over me.

Here are some tips for future complaints handling: (Free of Charge)

1)Listen to the problem

2)Apologize for the misinformation

3)Offer a solution

4)Execute the solution

5)Follow up

Bog Standard. Asking why so salty is a negative approach. Perhaps a call starting with please tell me your concerns is a gentler more open approach. It shows you care enough to hear the concern and fix the problem. Interrupting and talking over your client aggravates the situation even more.

Apologize - This is usually the tricky part. However if you are in the wrong by advertising a job when really you were advertising a training course for example - admit it."sorry ms, I can understand your frustration and how badly we have come across. I can see why you are upset we are not sure who put that advert up - We will be looking into it".

Solution - We are editing the advert on the gumtree now to prevent any future misunderstandings immediately.

Execute: Change advert to be more transparent.

Follow up: Not needed as you have crossed the line with me.

Moving forward - I am taking your misleading advert off the Gumtree myself.

Please send this email to the "salty" gentleman and copy in Ms Karim (she deserves to know how well complaints are handled in her company).

LOOK AT ALL THAT FREE TRAINING YOU GOT FROM A PERSON WITH A BAD UPBRINGING AND NO EDUCATION.

Absolutely Gobsmacked,

Jenny
