I decided to go to Septas website to see of job openings. There was one for Bus Operator. I applied with my resume and it takes a while for the process which I figured. I talked to different employees about it and they said you have to call.

There was testing on Aug. 20, 2002 at 1:30 pm in the Mezzalino Room which is the second floor. To qualify: it said 3 to 4 hours., bring letter, a pen, valid license, ssn. card, and the envelope. The test is totally different. The fax the info to a company in Chicago. Now remember this is for Bus Operator so you figure a video to measure your skills on the road, preventable accidents, safety issues, the public.

It only ask for 136 questionaire which I felt wasn't suited for the job. It wanted honesty of whether I thought about stealing. I work for Atm company and if I could then I would have mentioned it.

I also think they're racist because I was just told I'm not being accepted. Its ashamed. So if anyone comes to Phila and applies to the city jobs be careful

Hey Renee

Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!

The test is for minorities and african americans to get in. It does have something to do with the city. The company is a disgrace. You say its not that bad the test isn't what it is and when going for a test they give a weeks notice before taking it. I run a vending business and will be big at it. About the scheduling your correct about it. The second time I took it it was bullcrap.

Look me up at my company Wanderful in yahoo search engine for vending and you can call me and we can talk.

You have to know people.

SEPTA hiring practices are fair

In response to Steve, who claims to be a victim of racism, you didn't say what ethnic group you belong to. I was employed by SEPTA as a bus operator.

There are several requirements that must be fulfilled in order to qualify for employment in this position. First, you must have a clean driving record. Second, you must pass a criminal background check. Third, you must pass a test that is taken at SEPTA headquarters. The "road skills" test applies only after you are hired.
I took the test at HQ and passed. There were many types of questions to test whether you might steal, but also how you would react in a variety of situations, including dealing with the public. It's possible that your answers to those questions were what prevented you from passing the test.

As far as SEPTA having a policy of any type of discrimination--not as far as I'm concerned. I am a white female. In the division where I was hired to work, there were aprroximately 300 drivers. I was one of three white females. That comes out to ONE PERCENT. There were males and females of many ethnic backgrounds.

There is a certain amount of literacy and "smarts" required to do the job. Looking at your posting, I had a hard time reading a lot of what you wrote. Possibly, you weren't hired because you can't communicate in a coherent fashion.

Another thing, Steve, SEPTA employees are not hired by the city of Philadelphia. You do not apply to the city; you apply directly to SEPTA.
For the record, I am no longer working for SEPTA because of injuries I received on the job. The benefits SEPTA offers are great compared to a lot of companies. The worst part about the job is the hours you have to work. Once you build up seniority, the hours get better. As with almost any company, there are advantages and disadvantages. I never witnessed racism while I worked there.

Good luck getting a job, Steve.
