on 04/04/2003 i went to serra toyota's car lot to buy a new tacoma pickup. i found what i wanted and after a credit check they offered to sell said pickup for dealer invoice price. i had a consumer report new car price guide that agreed with their price so i agreed to buy the vehicle
i thought i was dealing with honest straight forward people so i trusted them, which i soon found out was a mistake. i told them the maximum amount i could pay each month and the amount i had saved for a down payment. i had no way of knowing they would adjust the price of the pickup upwards to take it all.

there was no MONRONEY window price sticker. it had been removed. i did not know there was a federal law that required the price sticker to be on the vehicle for the final purchaser to remove. i did ask about the price sticker and their answer was evasive. it seemes the penalty for someone other than the final purchaser removing this sticker is a $1000.00 fine and/or one year in prison.

i purchased the truck on 04/04/2003 and toyota mailed a replacement sticker on 04/28/2003 at my insistense. on examination of the price sticker i became aware that the wheels and tires were included as standard equipment. these same wheels and tires were listed as part of a package under optional equipment for which i was charged an add on amount.

then under distributors installed options a set of super sport wheels and tires was installed for an additional charge of $775.00 with no allowance being made for the afore mentioned wheels and tires. i was denied even a chance to know about this because of the missing MONRONEY price sticker.

now having the consumer reports new car buyers guide i have in my possesion a listing of the factory dealers invoice prices for the various components of the tacoma pickup and they do not agree with toyota's prices. they are less than toyota's prices. one thing i have failed to mention is that even though i made repeated requests for a final price quote for this vehicle i was never provided with one. i do not know exactly how much i was overcharged because of the disorganized method of pricing however i am working on the determination

#3 Consumer Suggestion

Will this help you Richard? Your Toyota dealer will not want you to read this.

Richard, I hope what I am about to post for you will give you a better understanding of the auto industry.

I also will post some contact info that you might enjoy using to expose how your Toyota dealer treated you when you bought your Toyota truck.

I first would like you to visit the following web sites that I am "not bashing." I do want you to know about these web sites. I want you to think real hard as to what product or service YOU THINK they sell to car dealers.

Here is just a few of many that are out there.
Some of these web sites have areas that you cannot go into unless you are a car dealer. I wonder what is on those pages!

Now, lets get into the mode of exposing how you were treated, OK?

First If I were you I would print off a "Printer Friendly Version" of your Rip Off Report and get ready to send it to the following addresses, fax numbers and all of the following email addresses.

When you send your Rip Off Report to anybody, make sure they read the Monroney LAW that is being broken EVERYDAY across the country.

Here below is info about the Monroney LAW.

"On July 7, 1958, Monroney's bill became law. Beginning on September 1, 1958, every automobile manufacturer was required to securely attach a label to the window of the vehicle, disclosing information concerning the vehicle and its FACTORY price. Any manufacturer who failed to comply, could be levied a fine of not more than $1000 and/or imprisonment of not more than one year."

"Mike" Monroney (1902-1980): Born in Oklahoma; US Representative from Oklahoma, 1939-51; US Senator from Oklahoma, 1951-69.

"Monroney sticker" means the label required by Section 3 of the Automobile Information Disclosure Act, 15 USC Section 1232;

So if you are thinking of buying a new car, truck or SUV make sure that you deal with a dealer that is not willing to remove the Monroney sticker price. The Monroney label may not be removed by anyone other than the purchaser.

Some car dealer's "Lot Sharks" will have their lot attendants remove the MSRP when prepping the car for delivery for the car buyer after a deal has been agreed upon.

If you do not believe what I say, go to the two following Rip Off Reports and look at ALL Photo's that are posted! Count how many cars you see with NO MSRPs.

http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/view.asp?id=38266

http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/view.asp?id=39348

Make sure that when buying a new car that YOU get to keep the MSRP for your records. Never and I mean never buy any car that DOES NOT have the factory MSRP still on the car.

Car dealers can increase their profits in a big way buy removing the MSRP before you get to the "Shark Pond"

ripoffreport.com knows, no matter what we do, there will always be scams in all types of businesses across the country. We will do everything in our power to help you expose the scammers and their scams to make you a more informed consumer says the creator of this web site...
