I purchased a Sharp LCD monitor from Buy.com on 12/2/04 for 299.00 mainly because it came with a 100$ rebate. I completed the rebate and submitted properly within the specified time frame.

Today (2/18/05) I get an e-mail from the processing company that the rebate was rejected because "Retailer or purchase location not valid for this offer"

I checked the rebate paperwork and nowhere on it does it state that the retailer is restricted (only comment is "Offer only good on purchases within the US, it's territories, and possessions". Looked at the shipping slip, Yep, shipped from California to Pennsylvania. Checked Buy.com, Yep they're located in the US.

Below is a log of my dealings with the rebate company/Sharp. It is still ongoing, but in my opinion I should not have to jump through so many hoops like this to get the reabte. I feel Sharp is using shady and misleading practices.

2/18/05 14:08 I called the express group, spoke with Chandrea, She states that because I purchased from Buy.com that I would not be eligible for the rebate. I explained to her that The rebate was listed there on the Buy.com site, and reviewing the rebate documentation, nothing on the rebate states that I would not be eligible for the rebate by purchasing from Buy.com. Chandrea advised I would have to call Sharp directly to clear up this issue.

2/18/05 14:15 I called Sharp @ 1800-237-4277/1/3/2/2 where I spoke with Dave, He opened me a "Ticket" for this issue (2281243), He had me fax him a copy of the receipt, the rebate form, and the rejection e-mail to 6303789913 with Attn: Dave or Everett Case: 2281243. I expressed to Dave that I feel Sharp is using shady tactics in order to not honor the rebate. Dave advised someone would look at the issue as soon as I faxed the information.

Sharp Lost my Faxed paperwork... (that's a suprise)

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 24, 2005

2/24/05 08:00 I had a Voice mail from Dave at Sharp Rebates. He said that they lost the fax that I sent, and asked that I send it again. He also asked for a copy of the UPC (I had advised them earlier that I sent them the original with the rebate form and they should have it on hand.). I re-faxed the information to them again (@10:45 AM), also adding the Shipping slip from Buy.com as well for good measure, and a copy of the original fax confirmation from 2/18. Lastly I called Dave (@10:50 AM) @6303783374 and left a voice mail for him to call me back when he receives the fax.

No New Information after another call to Sharp

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 23, 2005

2/23/05 13:47 I called Sharp 1800-237-4277/1/1/3/2/2 spoke with Emily, gave her case 2281243, she placed me on hold, then transferred me to Brandon. He said that he could not even acknowledge my fax, and it could take up to 30 days from the case was originally opened up to call me back. I asked for Brandon's supervisor, was placed on hold, a few minutes later Supervisor Ken came on the line. He said that the person processing these rebates takes 3-5 business days. I advised Ken that I would call back on Friday.
