e purchased two Ionic Breeze units last summer and immediately reported a strong odor and was told the odor would go away within a few weeks/months. Later when we called back and told them the strong odor was still present they told us we had to purchase an expensive (additional) filter to remove the odor because this time they advised us our "odor" was "normal". Needless to say the filters don't work either but by this time they are out of their 60 day return policy for full credit. We know we only have ourselves to blame but we will never purchase anything from the Sharper Image again. They DO NOT stand behind their products because their products and their service sucks!

Ionic Breeze never worked

Ionizers have been proven to be ineffective by the EPA. In fact the EPA states that if someone has trouble with breathing they shouldn't be used at all. Search for ionizers on EPA.org and you will see.
As someone who works in the copier industry I work around equipment that can throw off on ozone at times so bad I have to clear the room. If copier can charge the are and let off emmissions that isn't good for you, then how can applying electrically charged air into the room by a machine do the same thing?
It was difficult to Shaper Image to stand by a product that Consumer Reports proved ineffective. When Sharper Image sued Consumer Reports for liable, they lost and were ordered to pay for Consumer Reports legal fees. They even were trying to do a recall on them but couldn't support the store credits for them.
The air cleaning industry should have been taken care of by the government years ago but they were slow to get it done and put it into a holding pattern. By the end of the year the Consumer Products Safety Commission is going to give their decision on ionizers. Chances are that with the findings from the EPA, these machines will be a thing of the past.
If you want your air cleaned use a hepa filter system.
