In April 2008 I purchased a vehicle and was charged for the following:

-Auto Alarm
-Extended Warranty
-Gap Insurance
-Interior warranty

1) I later contacted them to arrange installation of the alarm and was given excuses why the alarm could not be installed (not in stock, shipped the wrong alarm, cancelled appointments)

2) I also contacted them to cancel the gap insurance and to reimburse me as my insurance company said the gap insurance was not needed. I was told I would receive word on the reversal of money back to my bank. It never happened. I went to their location in November of 2008 to complain and received a cancellation notice I was told would be filed the next day, and I should expect reimbursement in about 4 weeks. I was aslo told at that time to come back the following week for my alarm system to be installed.

3) I returned to the Dealer the next week and found them no longer in business, doors were locked and signs posted on the doors.

4) I am out the cost of the alarm, gap insurance, a worthless extended policy for the interior of the car, and am out extra charges for oil changes and interior cleaning.

I have contacted the gap insurance company direct and have been told I cannot cancel, as it must be cancelled by the dealer (even after I told them the dealer cannot be located). I would appreciate any tips on what I should do to clean this mess up. Total loss to me is approx $5,000.00. I am also interested in canceling the First Extended warranty over this but again I have been told only the dealer can cancel that policy. Talk about a rip off.

State Insurance Commission?

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 09, 2009

3 of your 4 problems are concerning insurance. You might try filing a complaint with your state's insurance commission or whatever they call it in your state. Last time I bought a truck, the dealer sold me GAP insurance for $575. When I refinanced the vehicle 30 days later, my credit union sold me GAP insurance for $199. I had to get a letter from the first bank releasing their lein aganist the truck before the first insurance would send me a partial refund of $555. Call the GAP insurance company and tell them you're gonna file a complaint with the insurance commission IF they don't get off their butts.
