I went into shawnee mission kia with good intentions. I had called them before i went to the car lot. I had a 1993 chevy corsica to trade in.they told me that they could help me for sure. I get there we talked for a few minutes about my options.THEY HAD ME APPROVED so we went out to look at the cars they had for me to choose from it was 1 of 1 cars of course. It was a 1998 ford escort. with 123,000 miles on it.

They assured me that it was in tip top shape. I test drove it for the night. It seemed to run fine. The next day I went in there to sign papers. The sales guy was giving us the run around. My boyfriend was getting heated so he went outside for some air. The sales guy had told me that i better calm him down if i want him to go home tonight. I took that as a threat.

We got to signing the papers and they only were giving me $1 for my one running 1993 corsica that had a little more miles on it that the car they were selling me for$5.400. we asked them if we could keep the corsica because they would not give us what is was worth. they said they had to take me out of a car to put me into a car.

We agreed to do that.I purchased the car in August. I had to replace tires 2 monthes after purchase, replace a battery, now 6 monthes into the loan the motor is blown.I contacted shawnee mission kia told them about the motor being blown. Mr sims at kia told me that they would only pay $700 towards getting it fixed.I would have to come up with $500 now and that they would have peoples auto credit tack the remainder $750 onto the loan.

I said i would not do that. The way i feel about it is that I traded in a running car,$500 down payment and i have already payed $2000 in payments I still owe $3700 on the car if they were to add another $750 onto the loan i will owe $4500 on the car. well the blue book value on the car running is $1070 so the car is well payed for

Shawnee kia tryed to tell me i need this car payment to help rebuild my credit. They made me feel like i had no other option. The motor they wanted to put in my car wasnt even new it was used and wanted to charge me a total of $1,873 to put the used motor in.

Now i refuse to pay on the car and risk having a repo on my credit. For a car i believe if it was in good running condition like they said the motor would have not blown in a 6 month time frame.

so at that i would recommend to anyone wanting or thinking about using shawnee mission kia dont do it.

Think About It

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 07, 2006

I've posted about this before. Think about it. They gave you $1 for your car. They'll sell your car for $2900 to $3500 to the next sucker who comes along. They probably gave the last sucker a few hundred dollars, if that, or nothing, for the 98 ford escort with 123,000 miles on it and sold it to you for a whopping $5400. The got the two vehicles for nothing or next to nothing and make themselves $9000 or better. Why you traded in a running car for $1, I have no idea. You could have sold it yourself for $1000 to $1500 instead of the $1 you got for it or held on to it as a second car, as a back up. Reminds me. My son-in-law buy a 86 ford escort with 186,000 miles on it for $4,500. Puts a $1000 down on it, his tax refund. Brings it home to show us, pround of his first purchase. The a/c wasn't working. The salesmen told him it probably needed froen. He gets it home. No a/c, no compressor. Christ almighty, I could have picked up the POS for $6- $800. call my attorney, he says have him take it back or they'll have to deal with him for the next six months. I explain to my SIL the situtation. He says no, he like the car. What can you do? Just remember, almost ALL car dealers do this.

Karla, you shouldn't shop alone

AUTHOR: Justin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 07, 2006

Karla,
I hope I don't seem rude with my advice that follows. Keep in mind, I do not and never have worked for Shawnee Mission Kia.

However, buying a car is considered a major purchase, as is a home. I certainly hope you would not buy a home from someone with a "for sale by owner" sign in their yard without consulting a professional.

If you are not fully understanding of the process (and again, my intention is not to offend), you should consult an experienced person before signing a contract for a purchase like this.

Car dealers love consumers like you who really don't question what they are signing and fork over thousands in profit to them. They know you are vulnerable and that is what they thrive on.

Unfortunately, I have a hard time feeling sorry for you. You entered into a contract when you purchased this vehicle, and now you must live up to it.

In Kansas, the required warranty period was well expired before you began having problems with your car. The dealer is not required to replace tires, and the amount of engine and transmission covereage is only valid for 30 days; If you didn't know, within that 30 day period, they only have to pay a small percentage of the repair costs (usually 50%). And if you exceeded the mileage (usually only 3000 miles in 30 days), you have no repurcussion on this matter.

I don't enjoy giving bad news and I'm certainly not looking out for the dealer's best interest as I don't work for them and never have. I just hope you take this as a very hard lesson learned and consult an experienced person next time.

You ripped yourself off

AUTHOR: Elizabeth - (U.S.A.)

Karla -

Wow, there are so many things wrong with this report I'm amazed you didn't have red flags flying all around your head when you did this deal.

1. You paid $5400.00 bucks for a 1998 Ford Escort with 123K miles on it ummmm WHY?

2. You had the car overnight before you bought it but you never took it to a mechanic to have it checked out on your own - again, ummmmm WHY?

3. You let them give you $1.00 for your 93 Corsica that was close in mileage and still ran?

Karla, I'm really sorry you got suckered in so bad on this deal. I hope this has taught you a lesson or two and even though this has been a very expensive lesson its probably one you won't ever forget. Become an educated consumer and you won't rip yourself off again.
