i went to shear speed being recomended to them by a fellow racer ,this was to have my 1955 chevy worked on . on the basis that i was gonna be racing the car and also driveing it on the street , a street and strip car.
as i said before this is a 1955 chevy in great condition even paint was flawless. i had already put in a new engine in this car, right from the crate it was running when i brought it to them , but needed to be towed to them because of a broken rear end axel . now the list of things for them to do was as fallows .. put in theese new parts
> rear end
>tranny
>tunnel ram intake and carbs with air scoop
> MSD digtal 6 box and MSD pro billet dist
>gear vendor
> hurst line lock
>run all new fueal lines from fuel cell to carbs
> new brake booster
> 2 new bucket seats
> install nitrous oxside and wire it up in safe working order
> and put in new gadges including new dakoda digital speedometer ...

now while this sounds like a lot its not all that bad . at the absolute most it should have taken 2 months to do this car .. well it dident, see i made the mistake of trusting the shop with my money and my car and yes even my life. i payed them $ 3000 dollars in advance .
this was what they bid the job costing me so they were payed in full on day 1 ..

one month later they call me up and say they need me to come down and look at somthing it apears i have some minor frame damage that they need to fix since im gonna be racing this car. so i ask how much they say $ 1000 more i gave it up just like that ..

now it takes them 2 years to do the car. i was calling everyday for 2 years asking how things were going with the car and i kept going over to the shop and seeing other cars come in and go out fixed while my jst sat and collected dust. i was irrotated very but also very patient as i never lost my temper with them or yelled at the. end of 2 years ive got a 1955 chevy with holes drilled in my ash tray for switches to the MSD ign box. fuel pump. electric fans and i baught and gave them a new fused switch panel for just that ,their reason for not useing the box ? oh i dont like the way its gonna look in the car .. oh my god isent that my choice to make ? but i dident get to. they also cut a hole in my fire fall just to make the carbs fit so now ive got half of the fuel bowl of a carb inside my cab. now for thos of you that dont know what a fire wall is for its to prevent a fire from makeing it into the driver .
so great now if i have a fire and that carb leaks fuel under a load under pressure its gonna feed the fire right into me. keep in mind that i told them i was gonna be racing this car and i always wanted safety first ..not very safe is it ?

well ide like to say thats all of the night mare but its not saddly .. they drilled holes in my fire wall to run the new wires for the MSD ign box but did not use any rubber gromets so my wires are pulled tight against drilled metal so now with time the vibration of the car alone will cause the wires to rub against the metal and it will cut into it causeing a big short and a lot of money by burned out ign system .. ive got scratches in the paint and dings in my windsheild they did not hook up my nitrous. they left it unwired and wires hanging in my engine compartment. the fuel line they ran they did not blow through with a air hose befor putting it on the car , so after my first day of getting it out of that hell hole i started leaking fuel out of every inch of the carbs due to metal shaveings in my fuel lines from their pipe cutter no fuel filter ...

im a big guy im 6foot 1 and 400 lbs they instaled my new seats without me being present so i barely fit the steering wheel rests on my belly and worst part is those seats are mounted by nuts and bolts no washers no metal plates so their is nothing their to prevent those bolts from riping throuhg the floor board and sending me flying to the back of the car from the force of launching off the line at the track at 4500 RPM .

i want all of you to under stand this is not some kid building a back yard racer its a 750 Horsepower big block chevy on a 250 horsepower shot of nitrous its not a toy and even in the right condtiton it could kill me. its ment for running the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds .. would you do that in what i just told you ?

at the end of 2 years they call me up tell me my car is done and come get it i go there and see the end result i get it out before they do anything worse to my car and they even charged me $ 400 dollars more that night for materials . i reluctantly payed it just to get it out of there. people DO NOT GO TO SHEAR SPEED I BEGG YOU im telling my story to you all because im trying to stop anyone else from having this kind of shoty work done to them they could kill you

Shear Speed Reputation for Integrity is Strong

AUTHOR: ShearSpeed - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 28, 2011

Michael from Oceanside has told his lengthy story about his perceived rip-off. I was often at the garage when he came by and in fact was there when he picked up the car New Year's Eve several years ago. He took the car for a test drive when it was finished and was visibly elated with the work and thanked everyone profusely, congratulating them on the work done.

I'm sure we all know people who grumble about what something cost after the fact. If you want custom work done on a racing vehicle, it is costly - like any custom work for any purpose, you pay extra for it. He wanted custom work and that is why he went to Shear Speed. Maybe he should have gone to Meineke.

From Rip-Off Report's own verbiage I copied this:

"Ripoff Report does not guarantee that all reports are authentic or accurate. Be an educated consumer. Read what you can and make your decision based upon an examination of all available information."

In the words of a defense attorney, "I rest my case."

What really happened?

AUTHOR: ShearSpeed - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 08, 2011

Everyone knows that there are usually more than 2 sides to a story. I happen to be a witness to another side. I was there helping out with inventory for the year end report. There are often people who stop by to say hi and wish them well.

True, I did see this 55 Chevy up on a lift on occasions of my visiting Shear Speed. I also have met the owner of the car several times. In particular one time when he was there to pick up the car close to the end of the year.

He inspected and test drove the car and then left in it after signing a release form saying everything was to his satisfaction. Yes, he did pay an additional amount of money in the approximate area of $400. Has anyone ever paid the first estimated amount given them for repair work? I haven't.

Shear Speed bends backwards to give the best service for the best price. My engine was rebuilt almost 3 years ago and I have had no further problem with it. My good friend, a patent attorney, took his Ferrari to them after the dealer couldn't fix the problem he was having with it. Shear Speed took care of it with a minimum of time and cost. My friend was shocked at their expertise after Ferrari fell short. He wrote a letter of excellence and sent it to them - I saw it - because he was so happy with their work.

Hopefully, the public won't be derailed by a complaint that needs to be taken with a truckload of salt.  What is really true there?

How do you know that the oil leak was caused by him? did he maliciously drill into the oil pan? Or did it start dripping after you took it to him?

When you noticed that he was doing work that was less than satisfactory, why didn't you take it to another shop? That is your right under the law. Please do me a favor and take a little more time to correct grammar and spelling. It makes it easier to read for everyone.

My experiance at Shear Speed.

AUTHOR: Thick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 04, 2008

A couple years ago I brought my 78 CJ7 to Shear Speed. Bill told me exactly what he was going to do and atleast a ballpark on what it was going to cost. I got it back and the work was custom and pretty darn good. I have never had a bad experience with Bill at Shear Speed.

I just have a couple comments and questions for Michael.

If you stopped in and spoke with Bill and called everyday, how come you were so surprised at the end? The seat could have been changed after you knew it was wrong.

Again, if you stopped by all the time and called all the time, how did all of the holes in the ash tray and the firewall? If it were my car, I would have payed more attention to what was going on.

Now lets get into the laws.

Shear Speed could not have performed any work that you did not approve. Now, if they did that, you can:

A: take them to Court.

B: Report them to the BBB (Better Business Bureau)

C: Talk to him and make a deal.

It doesn't sound like you really did your part to ensure that the work was done the way you wanted it. I haven't talked to Bill at all, but I have seen his work, and his business ethics. This doesn't sound like anything I have Witnessed.
