 Beware! The "Cash Deal" we set up with the owner 5 months prior to our rental week, turned out to be no deal at all.1 1/2 weeks after returning home from our stay, I was notified by my bank that my $500 damage deposit check was cashed by the owners of the complex.

In a panic I called Shirley Rast in hopes that it had been cashed by mistake. In a very hostile and  hysterical tone she screamed that we had broken her plastic sliding door blinds. I informed her there was no possible way our family did that as I was the one to open them in the morning and close them in the evening. We did not have young children with us that might want to play with the blinds and the blinds were left alone. Opening them the morning of our departure, they were in the same working order as when we had arrived. In our phone conversation she seemed intent on getting our deposit no matter what.

Our adult children had used 2 blankets to wrap up in on the couch one cloudy day. She loudly accused us of having guests that were not on the rental agreement. I calmly told her this was not the case and we left the blankets out to be washed for the next renters. She kept throwing out odd and accusatory phrases and sounded to be on the verge of completely loosing it.

Trying to keep her calm and at the same time trying to get her to see reason in returning our $500,  I informed her of the pleasant week we had at her place, which them turned into her interrogating me about my day to day, hour by hour, activities for the week. It was rude, uncalled for, intrusive, and maniacal.

I asked her what on the blinds was broken and she said a couple plastic panels were turned. Nothing was actually even broken. When I said "these are $50 blinds" she said as it was a damage deposit she could take the entire $500..... I informed her that if indeed I had "broken" the blinds, I would have been the first to have informed her and paid for them.

We have rented several vacation homes all over the country and never have we had this type of problem! She was sneaky and deceitful cashing my $500 check without informing me and for no good reason. I have a feeling this is a scam Shirley Rast runs and renters should be aware!
