I was checking my bank account online and noticed that AP9*SHOPPINGESSENTIALS had charged $19.95 to my debit card without my permission just this week. I knew I had not joined this company but I even did a search of my computer and receipts to verify some type of purchase - nothing! I called the 1-800-962-0332 to talk to someone...nope they are very good at covering their contacts so yes I did cancel my so called subscription but truely don't believe they will. I then called my bank and they have immediately placed a block on my card so that they can not use that card anymore. I just went through my online history and discovered that it was http://www.joann.com at the end of my purchase that I was tricked. I just called and talked to a Joann.com rep and found out it was indeed through their website that this is how this has happened - WITHOUT my permission!!! I will never shop at Joann.com and place my order online again.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Did you complete a survey or other offer for a giftcard or $$ of your order?

Then you may have signed up. I did not see what your check out screen but it should have stated that in the offer.
This is one of Trilegiant Corporations many worthless membership programs.
They ALSO work through your credit card companies. When working with your CC company they already have your account information - provided to them by the cc company.
I recently purchased something online and the retailer was pushing Shopping Essentials and Passport to Fun programs. To sign up and receive $20.00 off my order all I had to do was complete a survey. This was clearly indicated! I did not complete the survey by choosing NO THANKS! However that does not guarantee that I will not find charges for these programs. I expect them to cram my statement with unauthorized charges anyway.
The other day I received a $9.95 check in the mail from my credit card company. It was very specific in stating that by cashing the check you are signing up for the program Complete Home another one of Trilegiants worthless membership programs. I shredded the check AFTER making a copy of it and writing Shredded 9/9/08.
I had recently discovered 2 unauthorized charges on my statement for Passport to Fun and Travelers Advantage (Trilegiant again) and was told when I cancelled them that I had cashed a similar check and that is how I "authorized" enrollment in these programs. I have never cashed those checks! They go straight into the shredder.
Which is why I made a copy and noted that date I shredded it.
It does not seem to matter that you choose not to enroll - somehow they enroll you anyway. Your credit card company provides the account information and they use the same information provided for your online purchase.
File a formal complaint with the FTC, your credit card company and the vendor about this illegal activity.
