Sierra Pacific has incompetent, poorly trained and untrained former solar pool technicians performing HVAC service and planned maintenance calls.
The pre season safety check/tune ups very often result in their sub par magazine mechanic techs damaging the formerly operational equipment, causing gas leaks and component destruction.
For Example,A pre season tune up on a Coleman propane furnace in a modular home located in a remote section of the Sierras above Auburn Ca,resulted in the formerly operational furnace's gas valve being destroyed by the magazine mechanic technician who was attempting to check the manifold pressure, however he was trying to adjust with a screwdriver a plug that simply is removed and inverted then reinstalled to retrofit the gas valve for Propane use from the factory setttings for Natural gas usage. His inexperience not only ruined an operational furnaces gas valve causing it to not only no longer function, but also caused a major propane leak inside the home! The house had to be evacuated and the tech called for help(me).
by the time I arrived (30 mins) on site I found a home so full of propane it likely could not have ignited/exploded as the optimal ratio of air to gas(aprox 90% air) was far surpassed making the fuel rich air oxygen starved.
I immediately shut down the gas line and opened the house up to vent, it was during this venting that the home was becoming more likely to explode/ignite the indoor air(blow up).
I was told to not only fix it but try to convince the customer that this was a billable event and coincidentally coincided with the planned maintenance/pre season safety check the technician was there for. This is a customer who bought a $150 service contract that provides 2 pre season tune/check ups and a 15% parts discount and priority service status during peak times, I saw elderly couples who showed me a drawer full of service call receipts of technicians repeatedly billing for every call back and there were a ridiculous amount of call backs and technicians who were there before me!
I saw the dispatcher & Gen manager Mike Loer throwing away brand new, unused fan motors still in the box because they had been sitting on the parts shelve for years and were "rare" 230 volt condenser fan motors, virtually unheard of for years they asserted when I asked them why
they were throwing away unused, still in the box electric motors into a dumpster?
Heck they scrap for .39 a lb and they were throwing away about 20 motors or about 300 lbs
or about $117 just in scrap!
I said, 230 volt condenser fan motors are what they all are, in fact I never saw a 120 volt condenser fan motor on anything but a window shaker AC unit!
They both started clowning me, saying, We thought you were suposed to be really good?
I was training a pothead solar tech and I said to him we will show them who is stupid, I know my stuff! the 1st job I asked the solar tech what voltage that condenser fan motor was, he saw it was 230volt, he actually looked suprised I was correct! I further informed him that every one we wil see wil be 230 volt as well! I had hi radio in this data at each call we went to, they were pissed off, next thing you know I see that
every time a fan motor is replaced, it requires a minimum of 2 trips as they always had to get the exact motor or they could not wire it up if the collrs do not match ! Magazine mechanics!
They should have kept truck stock motors that will fit in most applications as long as HP and rotation etc are kept the same its fine and common place if you are not thrown for a loop by having to wire a fan motor up without the exact same motor! Tripsaver motors by GE are universal types and this saves alot of money by not requiring 2 service calls and parts acquisition etc esentially doubling the cost and time and cutting profits in 1/2 in doing so too! Next thing the dispatcher rides with me on a call to see the guys cars, he and Gen Manager must have forgot cause they both called me in alleging I was in aroad rage incident and HWY patrols coming etc? I was amazed I called the HWY Patrol and they never heard of such a incident! then I found it was the same day the dispatcher himself rode with me yet they both surmised it could onkly be me as they checked the dats and times against the payroll times etc, Only after I pointed out he was with me that day did they drop it, for a week then I get called into the office for stealing gas allegedly I refuled 2 days apart and 80 gallons, It was the sending me to another tech who was out of gas!
Finally their sales man Ken Baxter a large hefty guy lived in Lake O the Pines and his new furnace was a pain in their butt, allegedly they sent every new part with 4 techs and this was not runing still on an new furnace bought by an employee! Well I was told to lie to himm about how the Nat gas setup was ran with propane which ruins it and I said so! bit they kept lieing and changing parts over 25 calls from 5 techs and never did get the truth!
If they treat their own sales guy like this imagine a poor customer! The installs I saw that were not finished after 3 weeks! were trying to make incompatible equipment work together using a zone control system on top of it all also incompatible!]
I saw a new heat pump compressor runied by their installed using a flexible suction line plastic lined which melted ruinning the compresor, again I was told to tell LENNOX this was a warranty issue and their fault in other words steal and lie! they ripped me of for $5k unemployment too!
