The company called me solicited me for a roof inspection, claiming that they had inspected the roof of a neighbor. We scheduled a roof inspection for 21 May 2012. Two men showed up--the senior man announced himself as Mr. Brad Scott. He and the other man went up to inspect the roof and take some photographs.

When Brad got down from the roof, he immediately attempted to have me sign paperwork that would allow him to act as my representative in dealing with my insurance company. I had to ask him about the condition of my roof, as he wanted to have me sign without even discussing my roof.

Brad then attempted to give me a letter of reference, written to "Brad" with no last name or business address, and from a person who only used a first name with no signature and no address, not so much as a city. I stated that I didn't care one bit about the letter and demanded to know about my roof.

Brad told me that the roof was hail-damaged and would need total replacement. I responded with some disbelief, as my roof was only two years and expected to last 30 years. He indicated that they had been attempting to guess the age of the roof when they were up there. Brad indicated that my roof did indeed require total replacement, and that he would deal directly with my insurance company to make sure that I had minimal out-of-pocket costs. Even my deductible would be taken care of, as long as it was not more than $500.

I stated that I wanted a second opinion on my roof. Brad stated that he couldn't get another roofer out to give a second opinion. I told him that I would get my own second opinion. He pressed a bit more about getting the signature, saying that they could not represent me to my insurance company without my signature.

My roof has since been inspected by a roofing contractor that I know to be reputable who judged the roof to be in good condition.

They did not even suggest that any shingles be replaced at this point.
