I too was seated in front of an Ameritrain sales person, with a loan application that said "SLM Financial Corporation" (underneath this) "a Sallie Mae Company".Sallie Mae offers Title 4 loans....these are federally backed loans...SLM does not, this could be very misleading.

Being the "smart" consumer that I am...haha....I went home looked up the company and sure enough the web site says the same thing. I read about Sallie Mae loans..blah blah blah.

Everything was just fine until Ameritrain closed the doors. When I could get no answers from Ameritrain, I started calling SLM.
The first conversation went well, I was told they were looking into the situtation.

Second conversation...not as nice.
I asked them why they paid one lump sum of "MY MONEY" without any proof of completion. I asked if this was a normal business practice. Well of course it is....didn't I know that?

Third conversation was with Dena as well. I mentioned the bankruptcy ,Dena's stance on this was "we have not confirmed that they have actually file bankruptcy". HELLO...does this matter??? They are no longer where they were, they are no longer offering what we contracted . At this point I sent an email , and linked the web site for the state of Pennsylvania bankruptcy court. Showing them a "confirmed" case number. Of course I didn't get a response from them.

After talking with a Lawyer, and finding out what I needed to know, I have started talking with other students, and some instructors. It has come to my attention that there were possibly some unlawful practices going on....it all makes perfect sense now....SLM's unconcern with what happened to the tuition money they paid Ameritrain. Why there was no notice of this...Isn't it common practice for a business to give notice of some sort when they have intention of closing? Ameritrain posted on their web site that they were relocating. Yes Relocated...hmmmm. They had this on their web site for weeks concerning Georgia. That is until the post secondary department made them state the facts on the web site. I was told this directly from the source at the post secondary department...so this is not heresay. So I'm wondering about SLM's priorties here...seems to me that they made their money..now their only concern is making sure that we ripped off Ameritrain students pay for their greed.

DO NOT SIGN A LOAN WITH SLM, THEY MISLEAD AND LIE!!!!!
