This is less of a rip-off but more of a testament to Slomin's pathetic customer service. This is also a warning for anyone thinking about installing Slomin's Shield in their home - DON'T DO IT!
We canceled our Slomin's service a year and a half ago (wife was home with our new born so didn't need to pay the money) and today the alarm in the garage was going off for no apparent reason. My wife was home alone with our sick baby so imagine the extra stress of an alarm going off for no reason. When we called Slomin's to ask them to send someone out to disconnect and remove their equipment, they told they couldn't do so since we "own" the equipment (it was installed by a previous owner), which was news to us and that there are two power sources that can be disconnect. Great, so where are those two sources. Slomin's rep told us that he couldn't tell us that info. What???
At this point, my wife is extremely upset with the situation, the alarm siren is blaring and my sick child is crying (I was at work). Granted, my wife used some colorful language with the rep (a definite no-no) but under the circumstances, Slomin's was useless. The rep actually said "For all I know, you sold the house a year and a half ago and are there now trying to break in." Yes, and my wife is doing so with a sick baby in tow! How about calling the police and having them come then? Complete and utter lack of compassion or concern (we are no longer customers I guess) on Slomin's part.
I highly suggest that anyone considering signing up for Slomin's not do so - their customer service is laughable and they deny any responsibility for their equipment. Buyer beware!

I really don't see what you think that they should have done.
The alarm system was put in place by the previous owners. You knew it was there as you stated that you had cancelled it a year and a half ago. You didn't seem to have a problem with the alarm system being there when you stopped the monitoring? If you really thought it was their equipment, why didn't you request that they remove it when you cancelled the service? If you did and they didn't remove it did you ever wonder why or just figured that they were going to be generous enough to let you continue to use it(but unmonitored) for free.
Explain how a person in a call center is supposed to know where the power source is for the Alarm in YOUR residence. Did they install it? Do they have detailed blueprints to tell you where the hookup is? You might as well have asked them to tell you where the flashlight you misplaced last year was.
Explain how a person in a call center is supposed to know if you are the owners of the property. You stopped the monitoring so you are not a customer anymore. They don't have any "passwords" or "codewords" on file for you that you can give them to prove that you are the owner.
One final thing are you 100% sure that someone didn't try and break into the garage? Because the advice that you should call the police was probably pretty sound.
