In Dec. of 07 a SLOMINS ( criminal ) rep came to my house as we were shopping for a new alarm system since we went over to a Internet based phone system ( vonage ) and our Brinks system no longer worked. Well that was #1 concern throught the hour long meeting with SLOMINS and about 30 times the old cook lied to me and told me NO PROBLEM of course it will work.

WELL, as soon as the system was installed we starting having trouble we immediately called and the first out of the womans mouth was our systems do not work with Internet based phones.

WELL short story after months of collections we tried resolving direct with them they promised to come out and fix, never showed. When I called they said there was no record of the phone call. NOW after all this they will no longer take my phone calls hung up on me several times.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

VoIP, alarm systems, and responsibility

AUTHOR: OnlineAlarmQuotes - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, November 05, 2009

VoIP (Voice over internet protocol) is becoming an extremely popular option for phone services. Unfortunately it is not a reliable service when an alarm system is involved. Cable companies provide a verbal and written disclosure informing clients that VoIP can negatively affect the end-users alarm service.

Alarm systems work better when they are connected to a PSTN (public switched telephone network) line (POTS line - plain old telephone service line).
Reputable alarm dealers will stress this to their potential/existing clients. I know many dealers that refuse to connect to a VoIP line.

Mass marketers could care less. They know there are ways to rig a VoIP line so the alarm panel can communicate with the central station, but they also know it's not nearly as reliable as a land line. They don't care. They want the recurring revenue.  They tell you whatever they feel will make you warm and fuzzy enough to sign their lopsided contract, figuring they can hide behind that binding contract should any situation arise.

While the mass marketers participate in deceptive sales practices I find it is the consumer that is ultimately to blame. They offered "FREE" and you got exactly what you paid for. Not only are you married to that 5 year contract but that contract also gave them the right to slap a lien on your property. Read the BACK of the contract.

The consumer should have researched this before purchasing a life safety system! The consumer should not treat the purchase of an alarm system as being something on par with a newspaper subscription. The cable company warned you. Sites like this have complaints posted from others who encountered this issue. Reputable alarm dealers have websites with information to the contrary of the nonsense pushed by the mass marketers. Alarm manufacturer's have warnings posted online. It just wasn't important enough to research because the price was too good to pass up.

Why is it that a consumer will go out of their way trying to find a forum to complain in but they won't go out of their way to educate themselves on the product/service they are considering for purchase?

PLEASE prevent yourselves from getting into situations like this by spending more time researching before buying.
If anyone here needs direction with purchasing a security system, or just overall safety tips I'd be glad to help point you in the direction of multiple high content sites.

Good luck to everyone.

I also have slomins shield! been complaining since!

AUTHOR: Kim - (U.S.A.)

Im not the owner, Im also a customer of slomins sheild....I called slomins shield and the rep came to my house. I signed up for an alarm system. I assumed according to their commercial it would be installed right away. Took 2 wks for someone to come out and took all day long to install it and then the tech had to come back another day to finish the job!

On top of it all, I have the triple play with comcast. The rep never told me that the alarm would be plugged into the top of my modem!! when my internet goes out, the alarm sounds and/or chirps. Scares us constantly going off in the middle of the night.  We are afraid to go away and put the alarm on incase comcast cable goes out. whats the sense of the alarm then??

I called slomins shield and told them to rip it out and i didnt want it. The woman I spoke to gave me 3 options instead. She said i could pay 250.00 for something special so the alarm wouldnt have to go through the internet/digital voice phone. forget that I told her. She then said to switch to a regular land line. I downgrade now with comcast i have to pay a 150.00 penalty. then there was a 3rd option she mentioned that i cant even remember what it was. None of them was an option for me.

I finally had it when the alarm went off again in the middle of the nite. I called slomins and they said it all had to do with comcast cable and I had to deal with comcast. So Ive had comcast here 5xs or more. even today they were here!! Im furious.

my comcast contract is up in january 2010 and im going to downgrade to a double play and get verizon back on my phone line and see how the alarm holds up then.( so now comcast is losing money) Is this the most rediculous thing!! I cannot believe that slomins has not held a meeting of some kind with comcast or any other internet servicers/digital voice phone service to come up with a plan to make the alarm more compatible with their products/services. Im going to comcast now and make a complaint about it too!
