You may be tempted to purchase the software from Smartsoft Ltd called "SmartFTP" but be aware and well educated before spending money with them.

After purchased their ultimate product, you may find their tactics distasteful and deceptive when the maintenance license expires.
The license details read as an optional and elective option to continue with your usage of SmartFTP.  However, you will need to re-download the application each time a new version becomes available and apply your existing license key to get the application to launch beyond the link to their website. This appears to be on average a monthly occurrence.  If you manage to tolerate that barrier, after a period of time your license activation will do nothing to reactivate the application.

Sadly, the link to their license agreement posts an HTTP 404 (not found) error.  This has been the case for at least a month from the time of this posting.  Inquires on the issue are responded to with a curt "did you renew your maintenance?"

Companies that choose to terminate downloadable client applications much like a "hosted service model" need to be obligated to clearly state this.  I strongly recommend anyone interested in such a client to shop elsewhere for a more reputable company.

License Agreement

AUTHOR: Dale - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Here is the extract of the license agreement for SmartFTP.

Maintenance Expiration

When you buy a SmartFTP license key, your license is bundled with a maintenance plan valid for at least a one year period during which you are entitled to update to the latest available version of SmartFTP. Maintenance plans are available for one, two and three years. Once your maintenance plan expires you can always renew to continue updating and enjoying the benefits that the maintenance plan offers. If you decide not to renew your maintenance after the maintenance expiration date SmartFTP will keep running and no additional costs apply.

This is not being honored.  Both online license key and offline activation are accepted but the software still redirects to the maintenance fees page.....nice.
