A company with whom I did business turned my account over to this bunch for collection without any reason or advance notice and I was in total shock since my payments to them were up to date. This firm was extremely nasty about my protests that the account should not be in collection and refused to provide any informaton to me for an extended period of time.

For months I had assumed the firm's mailing were an attempt to obtain personal info for illegal purposes and I burned them. In the meanwhile I continued making regular payments to the creditor and was never past due on the account.

One day the sheriff showed up at my door with court papers about collection of this up to date account.

I contacted this bunch and the associate was unwilling to answer any questions about why they were suing; and why the amount of the suit included money I had already paid . I also wanted to know why the creditor turned me over to them in the first place.

I attempted several times to get assurance with the monies I had paid direct to the creditor were going to be credited to the debt amount and they refused to respond. (I had also been attempting to get this information from the creditor who also refused to respond to any of my requests).

I finally settled (for the full amount of the account) because since I fully intended to pay the debt anyway, it made no difference to me to whom I made the payments and I did not want the court costs or legal fees involved in fighting these sharks.

About 9 months later I came into some money and asked them for the balance due so I could pay it off. In the communication I asked how fast they could get the debt off my credit report. THEY NEVER RESPONDED.

I received a printout showing the payments I had made (among which were included the payments I had made direct to the creditor). They had had this information all along but had refused to give it to be despite several written, telephone and e-mail requests and had also told me they had to way to determine whether the creditor would apply those funds to my debit to this firm...but they had them all along!

When I did not get a response to my request for information, I used the money to pay off another account instead. I started getting letters threating to take me to court and demanding payment in full of the debt.

I wrote them repeatedly advising that I had papers they had filed with the court agreeing to monthly payments and had they responded to my request for information I would have paid the account in full but since they decided to try intimidation tactics I decided to pay another account.

They advised that the creditor had already agreed to payment in full. I advised them that they had jumped the gun getting the creditor involved since they had not received the money yet. They then agreed to accept monthly payments again. Imagine that!! How kind of them.

Once again I have asked for a payoff balance and how fast they will get the debt off of my credit report.

This firm is typical of why lawyers have a bad reputation. Their interest in not in getting the account paid, it is only in how much they can push you around. I understand that there are many people trying to cheat or skip out on an account. When it was obvious to them that this was not the case here, I should have been treated better than I have been. I can only assume that payment is not enough for this bunch...they want you to suffer in the process!
