I made the huge mistake of accepting an offer to work for this guy, Steven Smith, owner of Smith Manufacturing, back in January 2006.

After being there for close to 60 days and see employees come and go I started to wonder what was going on, then it happened to me. I was a victim of verbal abuse. This guy treated people with no respect and value no one. It was easy for people to just leave than put up with his abusive attitude. They made no effort what so ever to hold on to good employees and examing what was causing them to leave. In top of all this, he refused to accept my resignation and ask his 'loyal' employees to escort me out.

I left and it took me close to 2 months to collect all the money that this company owed me. I was force to contact Gevity, the payroll company they use and make them aware of what was happening and thanks to them I was able to optain my money. I lost money they never paid, including bonuses and my last expense report for the last event I organized for them.

I look back with sadness not only because I wasted 60 days of my life with this people but because I will always remember that bad experience I have from that company. I wish someone could do something to shut those people down and put and end to the constant abuse and mistreatment to good people and most importantly, naive people that come to work there with the best attitude and wiliness only to realize in a few days the horrible place they have chosen to work in.

Last and least I really hope one day one of our inspectors from the dept. of health decides to drive by and inspect this place and I am sure they will then shut them down. This guys Steven, collected the money from the insurance company after hurricane Wilma damage the roof of the company and sat on it, after 5 months of the hurricane hit, the carpet was moldy and I am sure there was mildew and mold on the wall too, you couldn't spend a single week in this place without snizzing or getting sick.

Thank you all for ready and I really hope everyone reads this before they accept any offer from this company.

Special Note to Steven Smith, you can keep the money you owe me and try to use it torwads some anger management classes. What you do to people is ilegal and against all code of ethics, but of course, you sure no nothing about ethics.

SMITH Manufacturing is a great place to work; Jorge is being misleading

AUTHOR: Carlos - ()

POSTED: Friday, October 25, 2013

After serious investigation of this 'incident,' I have a very strong rebuttal to Jorge Castillo's account of what actually happened.

This is from his file, including his dates of hire and termination:

Castillo, Jorge J.

Terminated

Male

01/30/2006

03/16/2006

First, he was here for fewer than two months, whereas I have been here over a year and two months, and hence have a far more accurate account about working at SMITH Manufacturing. I can attest that his account is incredibly false and misleading.

One of his many false claims is "I lost money they never paid, including bonuses and my last expense report for the last event I organized for them."

Here is a memorandum concerning his so-called expense report the day before he was terminated:

Memorandum

To:      Jorge Castillo

Re:     Trade show expenditures

Enclosed please find a check for expenditures incurred during the ATSSA trade show.  You will note the amount is less than you indicated due to you.

 1.  The company pays a maximum $35.00 daily food allowance with store receipts only.  This per diem is for employees traveling out of the area.  No food allowance is due.

2.  You have been paid a reimbursement of $0.32/mile for 92 miles.  The company is not responsible for your travel to and from work.  During the trade show, your work location was the convention center.  Also I have disallowed one trip to the Apple Store as you were told originally to return the IPODs and should have returned them on your second trip to the Apple Store.

Please do not make any company purchases or travel anywhere on company business without the prior approval of accounting.  At that time please issue a report of expected expenditures for approval.

--- end of memo --- original file available upon request

As you can see from this alone, Jorge (1) tried to get expenses for which he was not entitled, and (2) clearly did not follow specific directives.

If Steven became angry with him, it's because he deserved it. In fact, other accounts of the incident show that Jorge was belligerent and disrepsectful to not only Steven, but his co-workers. That would anger ANY boss.

Furthermore, Jorge did not 'try to resign,' but was fired for insubordination and poor work performance. The only reason he was 'escorted' from the building is because he became hostile.

The only times I've ever seen Steven becoming even close to angry is when someone isn't doing their job properly, intentionally going against company policy, or goofing off. Otherwise, Steven Smith is a fair, easy-going guy. Every boss has their individual quirks, but the anger and abuse Mr. Castillo describes is complete fabrication to cover his own shortcomings as a poor employee.

I've experienced genuinely angry and abusive bosses in my day, and I can tell you that Steven Smith is certainly not one of them. In fact, those employees who perform exceptionally are rewarded with extra vacation days, cash bonuses and more.

SMITH Manufacturing is in fact a great place to work, with dedicated and talented people who are passionate about what they do. All Jorge has done with his 'report' is harm the good people here by costing SMITH Manufacturing business because he was obviously unable to perform his job properly.

SMITH Manufacturing is a great place to work

AUTHOR: Jeff N. - ()

POSTED: Thursday, August 29, 2013

My experience is the complete opposite of Jorge's... SMITH Manufacturing is a very nice place to work. I've found nothing of the sort when it comes to his vitriolic assertions.

However, after some investigating to vet his claim, it turns out he was trying to collect expenses that were not authorized by the company, did not adhere to company policy, or both. Put simply, if a SMITH employee does their job well, they are rewarded. Do it poorly and all attempts at correction are made. If uncorrectable, one is shown the door. That's how it is working anywhere.

Also, his description of Steven Smith could not be further from the truth. Since I was hired as the Marketing Manager back in October, 2012 he has been nothing but patient, understanding, friendly and helpful when it came to the daunting task of teaching me an industry with which I had no experience whatsoever. Thanks to his help, I am now able to help the company's marketing efforts in ways I didn't know I could.

If you're looking for a place to work, do not hesitate coming on board with SMITH Manufacturing. And especially take anything Jorge says with a large grain of salt.

Thanks for your attention!

Additionally, why did it take him three months to file this report? Who is the angry and abusive one here?

If anyone is deserving to be reported for ripping off, it's Jorge Castillo.
