society hill, SC police dept. where`s all the society hill speed limit signs? Society Hill South Carolina

In March, my wife travelled through South Carolina`s Darlington County to visit family in Florida. The drive was pleasant with the exception of a tiny municipality called Society Hill.  We used a garmin to navigate our way and followed the two lane turning road to follow Highway 52.  Our cruise control disengaged as we entered the tiny society hill as one has to continually brake with curves and up and down road.  As we came to a stop sign to turn right onto main st, a police car pulls out 20-30 yards behind us and flashes its blue lights and pulls up behind our car.  We pulled over thinking the officer was going to pass us, but the police car pulled right in behind us.  The bewilderment just grew when the officer got out and informed me I was driving 54  (though citation issued to me says 56) in a 35 mph zone.  The officer stated there was a "big orange" 45 mph, and two 35 mph signs that I passed. I stated I did not see those signs and I was not speeding. The situation remained calm, mostly due to my wife`s presence and the officers low key demeanor.  As any out of state driver realizes arguing proves fruitless and best to just listen to the system.  We`ll the system as explained by the society hill police officer sounds like a scam.  The officer writes two fines down.  One on the front of the sate of south carolina uniform traffic ticket in the amount of $185.63.  The second amount is a higher amount written on the back of the ticket.  The higher amount, according to the police officer if paid, avoids driving points assessed against ones license.  No where on the ticket or literature handed to the alleged defendant is documented proof to support the officer statement.  Further, the society officer states paying the fine(s) can only be done by mail or in person.  A google search confirms society hill is not a SC municipality that accepts online payments.  So, the cost is prohibitive to drive  over 300 miles each way to contest the citation.  Hence, the society hill municipality picks up money, though contested by this driver as unjustified!  I hope to avoid Society in the future.  We returned home last night and while driving back made a point to look for all the speed limit signs the society hill police officer rattled off. Suffice to say, nothing doing officer and it was again daylight so we could clearly see.  Our traveling speed back was no more or less than our first time through.  Though the road back was inclined vs. Declining for the short stretch of road through society hill.  The society hill SC leaves a bad taste and I hope other out of state drivers are notpicked on as well.  Good riddance society, SC and change your ways for its a disservice to all your officers in blue!  God bless...
