Purchased Gorell windows in 2008., First of all, the dealer is also a crook! First met him in 2008 at the Waterford Fair. We still see him  every year trying to sell these junk windows!  Told him at that time in 2011 that the windows had spots on them and it was really bad on some of these windows to the point where you cant even see out of them. "oh, don't worry, theres a LIFETIME WARRANTY, and it's covered, just give me the details and which windows are affected and I'll replace them. Months go by and we hear nothing from this jerk.  Year and a half goes by and i'm getting angry now.  Spring of 2013 I call him and "he's coming this week to put my new windows in for sure".  Never called, never showed up.  I call him and his wife says "oh, he has the flu., Ill call you tomorrow and let you know how he's feeling and when he can come" . needless to say, she never called.  I call again summer of 2013. "oh, we have the windows, but were going out of town this weekend ill get a hold of yoou next week".  Wow, he actually called and sent someone out to replace them the week of July 18th 2013!!!!

Well don't you know SOME of my windows were replaced (all but the ones that he screwed up in ordering) two of the five windows weren't replaced because he ordered the wrong ones!!! BUT, that's not the worst part, He presents me with a bill for $333.00 WHAT!!!!!!! Are you crazy, "oh, well Gorell went out of business and their warranty is no good anymore.  Well I was not told that and ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!

So I call the place that purchased Gorell's assets (Soft-Lite) They don't care one bit. The lady said, arrogantly i might add, there's nothing we can do!

How in the world is this allowed??

Really, I am in the same boat, with the same company (Gorell, whose "new identity" apparently is Soft-Lite Gorell). If what you say is true, and it has the appearance of being true, they are using an old tried and true tactic that software companies used to use:

1) Do business for a while as "DVDXCopy" for example

Then,

2) "Go out of business," bankrupt, whatever, and start a new company, "DVD XPlatinum"

3) Same people, same exact product, with a just a different name and a few new menu options and one or two minor feature changes.

InfoKeep was another software company that did the same thing. The so-called "new" product and company had virtually zero differences, yet they forced you to buy the "new, improved" product, which was allegedly a totally different company and owners and product - they changed one menu option. Amazing!

How to alleviate this type of thing (Do all of these items - not just one!):

1) Continue reporting cases/issues on RipoffReport

2) File BBB complaints (and with Attorney General of the state where the company resides)

3) Seek "class action" along with people like me, who also are victims of the same company - we have a broken door lock that just "fell apart," and now that the company has "disappeared" [conveniently] under a new name, there's no way to get warranty support, and you/we are forced to buy a new product that was "supposedly" under a lifetime warranty.

4) Change the laws! Contact your legislators - all of them! Make a "distribution list" in your email with your Senators and Congresspersons listed, so that you always can keep in touch and let them know that the laws must be changed to protect the consumers! If a company goes out of business, then a supposed "new" company buys the old one, even if it's just the assets, like in this case, then the "new" company must also assume the "warranty liability;" otherwise, it's just a "shell game" and the companies can conveniently keep going out of business whenever they want to avoid the responsibility of their promised warranty.

5) In any new laws that are enacted, any company who promises "lifetime warranty" must keep "X number of dollars in reserve," in order to honor that warranty.

6) New law also should state: Any company with lifetime warranty must notify all holders of those warranties "before" it claims bankruptcy or goes out of business. Yes, there is "Public Notice," but that usually is reserved for posting in the local newspaper; that does no good when a company does business nationwide.

7) New law also should state "proceeds from any bankruptcy/recerivership" must reserve a percentage (10%? 15%?) to be divided among lifetime warranty holders, to defray the future costs of lack of warranty.

8) Let's all start a "KickStarter.com" campaign to fund warranty support plus "class action suit."

What do you think?
