In July of 2013 I made contact with Kim LaFlamme of Songdog Kennels of Selma Oregon. I found Songdog on the web as an American Indian Dog breeder. After speaking with Laflamme by phone in July I was told that if I sent a deposit of 425.00 immediately I would be placed on the waiting list for a puppy and would have one by the end of the summer.
The end of the summer came and I did not receive a dog, I was told that I just missed the list. I contacted Laflamme and was told that I would be getting one by November at the latest. Novemeber breedings came and went and again I was told I was passed over again but was a guarentee for christmas. I explained to LaFlamme that my children really were upset that we still dont have a dog but gave him the benefit of the doubt that we would have a christmas dog.
Christmas breedings came and went and again we were passed over. I contacted LaFlamme and was told that we were guarenteed the March breeding and not to worry. Again March breedings came and we were passed over again, I was told that unfortunately a dog did not come up for us and he would still be keeping an eye out for us.
In May I contacted LaFlamme and advised him that we had received a puppy from another source and would like a refund due to the fact that we had been passed over so many times and everyone else on the list around us had already received dogs. LaFlamme stated that he would not give us a refund but we could stay on the list until we wanted an AI dog from him. I explaiend to LaFlamme that he broke his promises with us repeatedly and that we would like a refund.
LaFlamme then stated that we were banned from ever getting an AI dog, and that we would not get a refund either. I am now out 425.00 and no dog from him.

Song Dog Kennels is very responsible

I have purchased two AI dogs through Song Dog Kennels. I would never want another breeder. True, it is hard to promise exactly when a puppy will be available, but Kim makes sure that is understood up front. It is so worth the wait! I'm glad this person did not get an AI dog because they deserve great new homes with patient loving people.
If you want instant gratification, get an older rescue dog because that's probably what will work best for you!
My dogs have been healthy and have the great personalities promised. That's what really counts!

Song Dog Kennels: Facts Not Fiction

I can provide information on this ridiculous accusation made by the individual who started this report. I am not the business owner nor am I an employee. I am a consumer and a member of the American Indian Dog Community. I am familiar with the Song Dog Kennels, Kim La Flamme and the person making the report.
This person did not want to identify himself and is trying to claim he is from Edmonton Alberta and not the Northern United States. I know the rebuttal appears to be long, but please read in order to understand that the individual who is hiding behind this false report is only doing so because he is upset at his own decisions and is resorting to negative harassment.
Kim La Flamme is a very kind and upstanding individual who is also the Founder / Trustee of the American Indian Dog for over forty-five years. I have know Mr. La Flamme for a while now and have been to the Song Dog Kennels many times. I have come to understand some of the workings of the Song Dog Kennels and I have observed the amount of time he puts into the care of his dogs. I can honestly tell you that Mr. La Flamme is not into the Indian Dog Breed for the money. He has spent most of his life carefully reviving this breed by traveling much of North and South America looking dogs the American Indians once used in their daily lives.
There are literally hundreds of happy AIDog owners throughout the United States and even a good number of AIDog owners in Europe. There is even an on-line forum for AIDog owners and for the people on the waiting list. The forum is open to public viewing to observe some of the postings, pictures and the wonderful stories and testimonies of this fabulous breed.
Song Dog Kennels requires all prospective owners to be interviewed and approved. A prospective owner must sign a sales agreement and provide a non-refundable deposit to get on the waiting list for a pup. The price of adoption is determined by what it costs to maintain them as a breed. The non-refundable deposit is explained during the interview process and is clearly spelled out in the sales agreement. The sales contract even goes as far as to say the prospective owner may even pass on a litter and remain on the list until they receive their puppy or dog if the timing is not right for the owner.
Mr. La Flamme primarily conducts the interview of prospective owners of his American Indian Dogs. He listens to the prospective owner and determines if they are suitable dogs owners. He also listens to what the prospective owner wants from a dog. Mr. La Flamme makes no promises on color of the puppy but the prospective owner may choose the sex of their future puppy. When the puppies are born, Mr. La Flamme will monitor each individual puppy and observe the temperaments while at the same time trying to match the puppy to the next owner on the list. The more selective the prospective owner is, the more difficult it becomes to find the appropriate puppy.
The standing list, unfortunately, is not a simple ranking from one to whatever. As I mentioned above, the more selective a prospective owner is, the longer the wait may be. Another factor in receiving a puppy is picking up the new puppy or shipping the new puppy. Anyone is welcome to go to the Song Dog Kennel to pick up their new puppy, but that is not always possible. Mr. La Flamme will ship the puppy by air if necessary however, weather conditions can, and do, factor into his ability to ship puppies.
Look at the severe winter in the central and eastern United States just this last year. Delta Airlines, for example, has weather restrictions for pet cargo during extreme weather and will not accept pets, if at any point (origin/transit/destination) during the animal's trip the high temperature for the day is forecast to be: Below 10°F Above 85°F. (no exceptions to the temperature restriction) This information was taken straight off their website. Other airlines have similar restrictions on shipping.
So as you can see by the just the few situation listed above, it is nearly impossible to maintain a firm standing order list. This was explained to me in detail as it is to others who have received puppies or those who are currently on the waiting list.
Mr. La Flamme is very approachable and willing to work with the prospective owners. The person making this report understood the contract when he agreed to it. If he didn't, he shouldn't be in the profession he is in, and he knows what I am talking about. This person has threatened Mr. La Flamme several times, through emails, that he would hit the internet and start claiming that Mr. La Flamme was a fraud and talk bad about the kennel. This individual, at this point, is just grasping at straws with his false slander.
This individual knew very well and was told by other owners as well as by Mr. La Flamme about the “real rip off”, that being the wolf dog breeders who falsely marketing their wolf dogs as Native American Indian dogs or NAID’s which gives the real American Indian dogs a bad name. Mr. La Flamme encourages research and even the Song Dog Kennel website encourages everyone to do their research before getting on the waiting list or purchasing an American Indian dog. – Thanks for your attention in this matter.
