Sony Ericsson Software update killed my Sony Ericsson W900i mobile phone Singapore Internet

This also serves as a warning to all Sony Ericsson mobile phone users. Do not, under any circumstances, do software updates of your SE mobile phones using the Sony Ericsson's Update Service.

About 3 weeks ago, I went to the Sony Ericsson website and downloaded the Update Service software. I installed it in my Sony Vaio and, following the instructions, updated the firmware of my W900i without any incident. Everything seemed fine until someone called my W900i. Turned out that the mic and handset speaker do not work anymore. I can put on the loudspeaker and hear the other party, but the mic will not work. The only way to use the phone is to use the hands-free wired kit.

The bluetooth also will not work now.

Up till now, I must have re-run the update service over 10 times, using 4 different computers just to make sure. I did master resets a number of times too, losing all my useful contacts and notes at the same time. But all in vain.

At no time did the update service software indicate what version number it is going to install into my phone. It just update their 'latest' after doing a identification and verification check. Now Sony Ericsson told me that there is no way to install any earlier version.

The bottom line is - you buy a Sony Ericsson phone, you use their Update Service on their website, it killed the phone capability of your phone, and you are left with a walkman.

We all know Sony created the walkman phenomenon. So being left with a walkman could be what we should expect from Sony?
