I discovered Soundproof Windows, Inc.'s, website while researching soundproofing solutions for my house, in an attempt to eliminate, or at least attenuate, a variety of exterior noises that keep me from enjoying peace and quiet. One hundred percent of the customer comments on the Soundproof Windows website are positive, citing complete satisfaction with soundproof windows and their ability to solve a plethora of noise problems. There are NO disclaimers on the website stating that the performance of the soundproof windows can be affected by the thickness of a hoomeowner's existing window panes or any other factors.

After a lengthy period of email and telephone correspondence with Soundproof Windows' sales person, who assured me that their product would solve all of my noise problems. I went ahead and ordered soundproof windows for my bedroom and master bathroom. Including packaging, shipping, and installation, the two windows cost me nearly $2,500. Imagine my tremendous dismay and anger upon discovering that the windows do not block ANY exterior noise whatsoever!

I immediately reported the problem to the company's customer service representative and to the owner as well. They insisted that I had to RETURN the windows to them in order to receive a refund ONLY for the cost of the windows themselves, which represents about HALF of what I paid in total. A local crating company quoted me $600 to package the windows, but not to remove them, which would have cost me additional money. It made no sense to me to throw more good money after bad, so I reported Soundproof Windows to the Nevada Better Business Bureau and also requested a chargeback from my credit card company, but was unsuccessful on both counts.

Frankly, I don't know how this company stays in business, but I would advise anyone who is thinking about purchasing "soundproof" windows that you would do well to look elsewhere for a solution to your noise problem. The windows I purchased, at great expense, are absolutely NOT soundproof, so do not waste your money!

Unfortunate same experience

AUTHOR: Percy - ()

I wanted to add to this report by saying I have just had the same experience. After spending around $2,000 I've found the windows do not work. They do not eliminate sound and they do not operate anything like the videos on their website show. Do not buy them if you are looking for soundproofing. You will be disappointed. The sound of cars, basketballs, construction equipment is not muted whatsoever. Buyer beware.

Confusion is common among liars

Someone needs to ask Ms. Sorensen, Soundproof Windows Inc.'s customer service rep, why on earth I would go to all the trouble of writing several letters to the Better Business Bureau, as well as to Visa, if their product performed as advertised. I am a busy professional with much better things to do! If Soundproof Windows, Inc., had a representative in Michigan, I would have sued them in small claims court a long time ago and saved myself a lot of aggravation and time.

Ms. Sorensen has never been to my house and therefore has no factual basis for her contention that the windows I purchased are effective at blocking noise. And frankly, her claims about the company's so-called "happy" customers are irrelevant! I complained because the windows do not work in my house - end of story. Ms. Sorensen has no right to contradict me and I find it absolutely infuriating that she continues to insist that the windows work. They do not block any exterior noise whatsoever, and I would welcome an objective third party to my house to test my claim. Regarding the fact that the installer claimed that the windows work properly, well duh, of course he is going to say that! He is, after all, an authorized installer for the company, so he is not going to say that the product does not work or that he did not install the windows correctly. The installer was in my house for a sum total of four hours, whereas I actually live here. Gee, whose word should carry more weight? And by the way, Soundproof Window Inc.'s installer is the very same guy who, after I pointed out to him that I had overpaid him by $100, and sent him a check for the correct amount, he nevertheless tried to cash the check for the greater amount. I have the bank documents to prove it. Luckily, I had placed a stop payment on the check for the higher (incorrect) amount. Does this sound like someone we should take at his word?

Soundproof Windows has definitely not offered me a reasonable solution. Ms. Sorensen says that "all I have to do is to return the windows." Did I mention that the windows were elaborately packaged on a pallet and weighed 357 pounds when I took delivery of them? It's not as though I can grab a box, put the windows in it, and take the box to UPS to be sent back to Reno! A local shipping company, Freighters and Craters, quoted me a price of $547 only to PACKAGE the windows. I'd also have to hire someone to remove them. Why would I spend $600 or more to return a $2,500 product that doesn't work? Ms. Sorensen's suggestion that I return the windows is not only preposterous, it is downright insulting. I do not want to keep the windows, as Ms. Sorensen says; I simply do not want to pay $600 to return them to Reno. The reason I don't have any interest in keeping them is because they do not work.

Here's the other side of the story

Frankly, we're a little confused. We have tried repeatedly to satisfy this customer and she has been unwilling to cooperate with any reasonable solution.

First, there is her claim that "the windows do not block ANY exterior noise whatsoever!" Based on our experience over the past 15 years, thousands of very happy customers, and the results of a number of independent laboratory tests, we know without a doubt that our windows are highly effective at blocking noise.

When Ms. Iafano contacted us we immediately began working with her in an attempt to solve her noise problem.

The local installer she had hired reported that the Soundproof window was working properly when he was there. He stated that the neighbor was running a machine and once our window was installed he could no longer hear the sound.

Despite the evidence that the windows are performing as promised, we have offered to refund the cost of the windows to her. She simply needs to return them. She is unwilling to do that.

This matter was independently reviewed by the Better Business Bureau and they determined that there was no problem in the handling of this matter.

We stand by our offer to refund the cost of the windows after having them returned.

It is not fair nor reasonable to want to keep the windows that have been reported to be working, and expect a refund as well.
