In February I received a notice that I had evaded paying a $4.50 toll on the South Bay Expressway on 1/27/11. Thinking that maybe I had unknowingly missed a toll and having gone to OC the month before I paid it plus a $60.00 penalty.

I just received a notice that again I evaded paying a $3.00 toll on the South Bay Expressway. This time I checked the time and date and know for sure I was not even driving during the supposed time of infraction. I then decided to look up where the South Bay Expressway is.

It turns out it is a freeway going to Mexico where I have never been. I am filing a request for an administrative review but don't hold much hope of winning and certainly not getting my $64.50 back for paying the first fraudulent citation

Hello:

We absolutely would be happy to refund you the toll and violation that you mistakenly paid and apologize for the error. It looks like this could be a case of a misread license plate. In cases like yours where a driver in San Diego with a similar license plate number uses South Bay Expressway without paying, we can avoid sending their citations to you by making a quick update in our system.  This way, we make sure that you dont receive any further incorrect citations from us.
This kind of error is straightforward and can be easily taken care of with a phone call. The process may take a bit longer if you fill out the Request for Administrative Review, but we can expedite everything if you call our Customer Service Center. Without your name or license plate number,
we are unable to look up or correct the plate and process a refund for you. Please call us at
619-661-7070 at your earliest convenience to process your refund.

We would never intentionally charge you or anyone else for a trip on South Bay Expressway that was not yours. While we try to keep these errors to a minimum, sometimes they do happen. All it takes is a simple phone call and were always glad to make the correction.
