 My friend runs a successful dog grooming business, but they wanted to branch out more and were considering a pet store franchise, or similar opportunity involving pets. We were talking and they mentioned some kind of pet franchise called Splash and Dash for Dogs, which I never heard of, and apparently a lot of people never heard of. Apparently it is run by a guy named Dan J. Barton, who I also never heard of and when I asked a couple people in the grooming business they never heard of him either, but he claims to be some sort of “expert” or "coach" in the pet business. So I did some research and he says he has a background in the gym industry. Although on his site it claims he is a guru of some kind in the pet business, the only thing I can find are sites that appear to have been created by him that contain self-praising and self-validation. Most of his “appearances” seem to be on radio spots or other media that anyone can pay to be on or put in requests to be a guest. It doesn’t appear that he is a sought after speaker or “coach” by any stretch of the imagination and appears to be attempting to create hype around himself using websites to shower himself with self-praise. After looking this guy up I found that he was sued by World Gym (T.R. World Gym-IP LLCT.R. World Gym LLC) in a New Hampshire district court presided over by Judge James R. Muirhead. Does that sound like a “guru” or “expert” to you? It’s my opinion that this guy is nothing more than a slick talking salesman peddling franchises in an attempt to lure well-meaning pet grooming business owners or aspiring owners into a situation that in my opinion doesn’t seem very favorable to their interests in order for him to gain financially off franchising fees and selling boutique items to franchisees. I informed my friends about findings and they were glad they dodged the bullet by not getting involved with this company. Splash and Dash as a pet store franchise seems to not have much brand recognition, I asked many people and no one seems to have heard of it. If you look around there are more profitable and better franchises with real brand recognition that seem more reputable. I am putting this out so that way you can save yourself from potentially finding out the hard way. Ultimately the decision is yours to make, but this has been my opinion based on information I was able to find. As groomers and/or pet store owners it’s important to look out for each other because, as in most businesses it only takes a couple of bad apples to ruin it for a whole industry and the fun we have in this business and the relationships we have with our clients that took time to build and were built on trust that was earned can easily be ruined by bad apples.
