On August 7th I went to Tucows.com to look for a freeware to remove any "bugs" I may have had on my laptop.  I knew of Spybot believeing it to be a reputable spyware removal tool.  I went to their download center and downloaded the software (loaded as freeware) ... I was reviewing my credit card tonight and found a suspicious charge (SOFTWARE-888-769-380) ... so I googled it and found it was Spybot in another RipoffReport file.  They charged $88.82 to my credit card and I have no idea how they even got my credit card number because I know I didn't put it the download.  Any freeware that requests a CC#, I avoid as past experience has proved a bad decision.  I have yet to call them (and will) ... but figured this warranted a RipOffReport for the unapproved funds being taken from my account.

We have heard of this scam many times. People searching for our website are directed to a website which offers to provide support for our software. Unfortunately if the user does not read the 'small print' they can mistakenly think they are they purchasing our software. A number of users have contacted us regarding this and they have managed to get a refund.

The company mentioned in this article (SOFTWARE-888-769-380) has no association whatsoever with 'Safer-Networking ltd' who are the suppliers of Spybot software. Our official website is: www.safer-networking.org

Spybot Software 888-769-380Sheffield Vil. OH I went to website Spybot and applied for it to my laptop, did not give any bank information. Looked at my bank acct. a day later and there was a charge for $88.82 that said Software 888-769-380. I contacted Spybot and they said their product is free. Downloadprtos.net Spybot Search & Destroy Was supposed to be spybot Search & Destroy for 19.95 year and after entering name, er-mail and credit card info. it came up to be Download pros and nothing to do with spybot Seaech & Destroy and there was over an $85 unauthorized charge on my credit card. They provide a ph. number to the card co. that is fully automated and after 3 messages to them there is no response. They are scam artist and CROOKS. Internet

Reg Cure Pro I purchsed it and it has been ten months, now it is shut down and I am told that if i want to renew it I can use it. It is crap, spybot, and glary utilities is free and does more. This is a scam on line internet

SOFTWARE PROS I DOWN LOADED THE FREE VERSION OF SPYBOT THROUGH SOFTWARE PROS FOR 2.49 AND A FEW DAYS LATER HAD A CHARGE ON MY DEBIT CARD FOR 59.99 . I CALLED THE BANK OF AMERICA AND I WAS PROTECTED. THEY DID A FRAUD INVESTIGATION AND MY MONEY WAS RETURED. ALSO GOT A NEW DEBIT CARD TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE. BEWARE FLORIDA
