I enrolled my child in this facility, because it was convenient to my home, it appeared to be a nice place, and it was a faith based organization. I thought I could trust them with my child. The child care director Sharon Curtis supposedly holds a BA in psychology, a MA in Ministry and a PHD in Divinity. After visiting all of the centers in our area, we found the only facility at the time without a waiting list, and an outrageous rate was St. Peter's. Since my husband and I both work full time jobs, and needed to place my daughter immediately I did not question there billing practices, which was my first indication I needed to find another center soon. St. Peter's Childcare charges for care not provided, they charge 1 week in advance. We were paying the full month in its entirety, and I thought my child would be there until we decided to remove her so I wasn't too concerned. It seems like once they received payment and enrollment fees, totaling $560, the problems began immediately after. The director would call me at work daily stating that my child was being disruptive, and disrespectful to her staff as well as herself. She said she did not have enough staff to care for my child while she was misbehaving. She also mentioned how she was injured in an accident and could not restrain my child. The calls continued daily. On occasions she asked that my husband or I come pick our child up, because they could not control her. On one occasion my husband was extremely ill in bed, and I could not pick up my child, so my husband ended up picking our child up and almost got into an accident en route to the center. Although we were made to pick up our child midday they refused to reimburse us for not receiving services we paid for. We had never before received any complaints about our child having any disciplinary problems from any other center where she had previously attended. Also, once we arrived at the facility, or on previous surprise visits, we never witnessed our child behaving in the manner they described. On many visits, we witnessed children wandering the halls without supervision, as well as disproportionate student teacher ratios. Although the contract stated that if there were 3 reported incidents of behavioral warnings they exercised the rights to dismiss the child, the Director continued to take our money. I requested that we meet to discuss strategies to improve my child's experience in the facility the director did nothing. Finally one day after the director called me multiple times requesting we pick up our child, Sharon Curtis the director met with us briefly to tell us that our child was being discharged. She proceeded to advise us that our child needed psychiatric help, that we should contact our pediatrician for referrals. She also made reference to our child possibly being unhappy at home, which could be cause for the behavioral issues. It took every fiber in my body to keep from my killing that idiot psycho. Since then I have reported them to Child care licensing, who found the complaint valid. I wrote Pastor & First Lady Dr. Kirkland R. Walton & Deaconess Brenda B. Walton of St. Peters Baptist church, requesting their assistance, and they never responded. I asked to be reimbursed for the time our child did not attend, as well as for registration fees since they discharged our child without warning. They only returned one week payment; our child only attended one week and half a day. Through the time our child attended this center they charged for sheet rental collected money for building funds etc. I was talking to a friend of mine about our experience while shopping, and a couple who overheard our conversation told us she thought someone at the facility had been inappropriate with her son. She said his behavior had changed significantly when he started attending the facility. She also said she had the same experience I did with the facility. My child is now enrolled in a wonderful facility, and we have had no issues. Please beware of this facility, they are unscrupulous scamming thieves. Hopefully their license will be revoked. How is it that someone who supposedly has a background in child development and psychology be so cruel to a child, also not be able to control a 5 year old. These Idiots need to be shut down. Who knows what they are really hiding or doing to these poor children. My child is not perfect, but we never had any behavioral problems prior to attending this facility. Thank GOD my child survived this ordeal. Please be very cautious of this facility if your child is enrolled here, monitor them closely.

A Blessed and Grateful Parent

AUTHOR: KJones - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, May 20, 2010

I am honored to write this letter of gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff of St. Peter Baptist Church Child Developmant Center for the sincere nurturing and excellent academic preparation given to my child, Faith. Her time at the center gave her an exceptional start to her educational journey.

My daughter was enrolled in the St. Peter Baptist Church Child Development Center when she was only 26 months old. This was her first time away from home and she cried for over five weeks. I received numerous calls from the current director, Sharon Curtis, about Faith's crying. We discussed many strategies to help my child adjust to her new environment of learning. Whereas the crying did improve; it did not stop and I told Dr. Curtis that me and my husband were considering moving her from the pre-school program. She encouraged me to give it one more week. We did it and it was the best decision.

The nurturing my child received on a daily basis from Mrs. Williams, Ms. Joyner, Ms. Wilkerson, Mrs. F. Jones, and many others was outstanding.  In the mornings during drop off, Mrs. F. Jones would console her while she cried and in the evenings during pick up, Mrs. Joyner or Mrs. Austin would be holding her when I picked her up.

Academically, she was more than ready for Kindergarten and could have been placed in first grade due to the education she received from the outstanding qualified teachers at St. Peter Baptist Church Child Development Center.

Socially she began to bloom, as she talked more with her peers and the staff.  We cherished the spiritual lessons Faith received. She learned the Lord's Prayer and Bible Pledge at 2 years old. She also  had daily morning prayer, learned many hyms, went to chapel weekly, and participated in numerous programs. The staff educated the whole child. During the summer of 2009, we chose to enroll Faith in the Child Development Center's Summer Program, because we knew this was the BEST program to give our child everything that is needed--socially, spiritually, and academically. Faith, soon to be 7 years old, is now a vey confident, well rounded, and talkative child. Her first grade teachers said she is one of the best students in her class.

As I continue you refer parents to the center, I am confident that the Child Development Center will keep up the good work. The staff, the board, and the St. Peter Baptist Church go above and beyond to do God's work, "being of service to his people."

Sincerely,

Clara James Scott, Ed. D.
