Sterling National Lenders and many other companies like them who claim to be mortgage lenders or other credit repair agencies send in an ad via fax or email. Once we receive the ad we call them to get credit card information and find out how long to run the ad. They usually set the ad up for 4-6 weeks.

After the ad has run the entire term we get a chargeback and it's usually from American Express because they usually always side with their customer. American Express will want proof of the cardholders signature which we usually don't have because these companies are usually out of state and the information was taken by phone.

We caught onto this scam a few years ago and now we won't set the ad up without first faxing a contract for the cardholder to sign and fax back. We had a contract signed by a William Mack so we were covered and I guarantee you that you can never get Mr. William Mack on the phone but when I told the girl working there that I had a signed contract he got on the phone with me real fast.

He said that he wasn't disputing our charges that it was another companies charges that he was disputing, likely story. We realized that he had renewed the same ad by phone and we hadn't gotten a signed contract for that second run. We will end up having to eat that I'm sure. We are considering whether we should continue to accept American Express anymore as there are some major flaws in their procedure and the way they handle these types of things as they have to realize it's the same types of companies who do this over and over and over again.

One thing I can say is that this type of thing will not happen to us again. I hope this helps someone out there who is in the same type of business as us or anyone else that this company or others like them might try to scam.

I just got the actual chargeback from the second run which I didn't have a contract for but it did provide me with some additional information which I am going to also provide the FBI. The actual person's name on the credit card is Mohammad Hassan Mohaghegh and who knows there might not be a William Mack at all. But I know that this name was what was on the card that the bank issued this person and I'm sure he must have had to show some sort of identification to open this account. The bank that issued this card is Royal Bank of Canada, PO Box 11478, Station Centre Ville, Montreal, QC H3C 5P3. So George apparently they are not located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, they are somewhere in Canada. I promise I will be providing this information to authorities and I will be praying to see them caught.

Sterling National Lenders

Sterling National Lenders is in fact not located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, but rather appears to be in Canada. The address 701 Lynnhaven Parkway is a very large shopping mall with over 100 various shops, none of which is Sterling National Lenders. Please note that the letter head' from Sterling National Lenders spells Lynnhaven as Lynn Haven (no one who lives in Virginia Beach would ever spell Lynnhaven as two words) and the phone number is an 866 area code number. While the Fax number has a 757 area code (that is a correct area code for Virginia Beach) I can only assume anything faxed to that number is forwarded to Canada. I have also found another company' called Pioneer Lending that uses the same exact telephone numbers and as Sterling National Lenders which gives its location as Ontario, Canada. Most of the complaints this office has received state money was sent via Western Union or Money Gram to New York, not to Virginia Beach. Anyone who has fallen victim to Sterling National Lenders should contact the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov), the FBI (www.ic3.org) and Phone Busters (www.phonebusters.com). Each of these web sites will allow you to submit a complaint. There is nothing our office can do to assist you other than give you the three above agencies to file your complaint.
