Steven Odenthal publicly spouts Republican family values, and constantly bemoans wasteful government spending of "liberals." He verbally decries contemporary unethical behavior. His own life, however, seems to betray those purported ideals.

For several years, Odenthal rode the scammy wave of the crooked mortgage lending industry that sent much of America into the economic toilet. His specialty in that industry was shady "stated income loans," which were, all too often, based on falsified financial data. When the jig was up on that, he moved into equally questionable corners of the insurance industry. His insurance operation, Odenthal Insurance Services, uses a notorious mail-drop office in St. Paul (1600 University Ave W, #208, St Paul, MN 55104) that acts as a front address for a number of shifty businesses that lack the documentation for PO boxes at the post office. Investigate him thoroughly before doing any type of business with him.

Odenthal's personal life is equally suspect. His first wife alleges that he was extremely abusive and cruel, and she had to use public services to help her. After she divorced him and married a Seventh-day Adventist preacher, Odenthal responded by clogging the courts with a long, unsuccessful lawsuit against the Seventh-day Adventist church ("Steven R. Odenthal, Appellant, vs. Minnesota Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists"). His reputation shot with the local women, he whipped out his credit card and purchased a wife from Soviet Belarus. Hopefully, she will be safe.

I would also like to point out that I have lived and always done business in the state of Minnesota.  The person who posted the complaint did so anonymously, and from the state of Indiana, and did so 6 years after I left the mortgage business and 3 years after I sold insurance.  Someone obviously has a serious, angry debt to settle with me and are making up whatever accusations sound the most horrible.

Response from Steven Odenthal

AUTHOR: Steven - (USA)

It is distressing to me to see my name slandered in such a dishonest, and apparently, casual manner.  I have no idea who this individual is.  It is interesting to me that it was filed in 2013, yet I quit the mortgage business in 2007.  It is obviously someone who is personally unhappy with me.  I all the years I was a real estate/mortgage and insurance professional in Minnesota, talking about 20 plus years, I never had one complaint filed with any state agency, ever.  I was never investigated for any wrongdoing, for any "shady" business deals.  I operated an above board company in an honest and forthright manner.  If there are specifics that this individual would like to bring forward, I freely encourage him/her to do so.  My speicialy was not stated income loans, as this individual specifies.  I'm not sure why he/she is saying that..in all the years I operated my company I did perhaps 2-3 stated income loans a year.  Falsified financial data???  Never!  Again, if you have data to support these contentions, please bring them forward.

The next accusation is with regards to my insurance career.  I worked with many businesses to offer them supplemental insurance products, (short term disability, life and accident plans).  Most of those plans are still on the books.  It is simply impossible for me to have operated in an unethical or dishonest manner.  This individual says I used a "notorious mail drop in St Paul).  What???  For what?  What was I mailing, and to whom?  We didn't mail our applications.  We took them in the business owners offices, sent our applications down to Corporate in North Carolina, and they proceeded to underwrite the policies to verify the information we sent them before issuing policies.  I have no idea what this person is talking about.  Why should they be able to make charges up out of whole cloth in this manner?  I demand they come forward and identify themselves and prove these charges!

Next this person delves into my personal life, with even more dishonest portrayals.  My wife had an affair with the pastor of our church. After finding out his background and that he had done this in two other states, I decided to sue him for clergy malpractice and negligent behavior.  Contrary to what this person alleges, I was never abusive to my wife.  And he also gets this wrong...he says I was unsuccessful in my attempt to sue.  In fact, the case went all the way to the Minnesota State Supreme Court, where I won a unanimous verdict.  I'm not certain why they think they can lie with impunity on things that are easily verified.

And I didn't "whip out my credit card and purchase a wife from Soviet Belarus".  I havne't had a credit card in over a decade, and I courted and married a woman from Belarus in June of 2004.  This June we will celebrate 11 happy years together.

If there is any justice the owners of this website will investigate and make the necessary changes to clear my name.  Or at least identify the person making these ugly rumors.
