I was Charged $415 for towing. My vehicle was towed 10-15 miles form scene where I had been rear ended. When I went to pick up vehicle 2 days later. I was charged $415. The attendant said "We thought your neck was broke". When I ask her why so much for towing a Nissan Frontier, she said we don't set the prices they are set by Sevierville Police Department. The officer at the scene had ask me who do you want to tow your vehicle. When I replied no preference he said I'll get the next tow company in the rotation. Is SPD in some sort of colaberation to set and fix prices? Is this attendant using a refenence to PD to extort extra money from moterist? I think the Sevierville TN PD needs to be investigated for having this company on its rotation. Thomas Knoxville, Tennessee

I fully espect to get reembursed for tow charges. Ripping off an insurance company is still plain fraud. You must be one who thinks If I didn't have a bicycle it wouldn't have gotten stolen. Lets face it this is a clear cut case of a business exploiting a loop hole unfairly! This company should not be on any rotation, and with all the tax dollars we give to government, the SPD should procecute this fraud, unless they are receiving a kick back. This is a normal and logical thing to think.

You got rear-ended, that means the other guys fault, send the insurance company the bill, they have to pay it unless its a write off and you took a pay out.
What I found out moon lighting at a local Towing company. NOT THIS ONE.
Towing companies Lie about this ALL THE TIME.
Background to the rate: Anyone can start a Towing Company, get a business Licence and Apply to be on the Police Call out rotation. Where I work it's a week on then wait for the next rotation. Every Month or so where I am Currently. So I work evenings 1 week a month on call. Most places have a little better system where the rotation is each call goes to the next company.
The Police Are Required to Accept any Towing Company That meets the requirements and agrees to tow for the flat rate OR LESS. The flat rate is USUALLY set by the Tow companies as a group.
So what happens is some dofus in a jacked 4X4 crashes and it takes the Driver all day to clean up the mess for $4.00 an hour and your crash takes 15 minutes and you pay the same price.
Not fair, but Leagle and enforceable. Thats what the police want and look for.
What they are trying to prevent is what happens in Ontario Canada right now. Tow trucks hook to crashed cars without permision or having been requested and drag them away. The owner is required to contact a Towing company so Crash Chasers end up with your car, take it where they want, pad the storage bill, drop it at a repair shop for a kick back, won`t release it or tell the owner where it is untill the enormous bill is paid, and on and on.
SO the $415.00 flat rate is about double is what you should have had to pay, but at least you have your little truck back and have recourse to chase your money.
By the way, if your prefered towing company is on the rotation, you still get stung the flat rate if you call them instead of the Police.
Good Luck getting your money back.
