Strader Drilling CO. Inc. of Holton, Kansas used to be a reputable company; that is before new management took over the family run business. Unfortunate for many customers, and employees the new management is the son and daughter in-law of the president and owner Bonnie Strader.

As a former employee and supervisor/ lead driller for Strader Drilling Co. Inc. I witnessed first hand how the company was managed before and after the new management took place.

Jim Strader Jr. and his wife Betty Strader took over running the company after his uncle Dale Askren retired in January 2004. From there I witnessed Jim Strader willfully and fraudulently tell his customers; and told me to tell customers that we would: drill deeper that what we did, report to the state and customers that we would bore larger holes that what was done, and lie to them about why we could not make it to the job site. Jim Strader Jr. was getting to be notorious for lying to customers that had been on his "drill list" for many months about our equipment being broken down just because he didn't want to do the work, other than just telling them he wasn't interested. Jim would also intentionally not answer the phone, or hide and tell employees that he wasn't there; in fear of talking to an angry customer, or simply just because he didn't want to deal with the problem.

While Jim does have great wisdom of the company, equipment, and products his lack of motivation is showing in the company. His equipment is run down, and is in dire need of replacement. There is hardly ever a secretary(his wife) there to answer phone calls, or even return them, and if you just take a drive by the company at 12302 246th Rd Holton, Kansas, you will find that the place looks completely run down and trashed. The sand that they use to fill in around the casing of their water wells is used a "litter box" by the animals that they have, the drilling rig that they use leaked a lot of hydraulic fluid around the boring holes and into the casing of some of the wells that was drilled. Jim was aware of the problem but would not do anything to repair the problem for several months. This even occurred on drilling sites for a rural water district in Waverly, Kansas; in which the wells where used as public water supply. These wells were also not drilled to state specifications. They were to be drilled with a 14" bit for proper grout, and Jim did not supply the proper bit to drill these holes. Instead he told the district and state officials that they were drilled this way, when we only used an 8-3/4" drilling bit.

Just as a fair warning to anyone wanting to purchase work done by this company, dont pay up front, get the prices in writing, and dont let him tell you that they have to install the pump. While it is required by state law that a licensed well contractor is required to install the "pit-less" adapter into the well casing, it is not the case for installing or servicing the pump, or water lines to your house, and yes Jim will threaten this to you. Just remember that this man was on the Kansas Ground Water Association Board, and he still did these fraudulent things.

There are still a few reputable water drilling companies out there and it is a shame that Mr. Strader has ruined the reputation and integrity of what WAS a great company. I can tell you first hand that Jim is more interested in taking your money to better himself, not the company, which is now hurting because of his poor management skills. I even remember him telling me that he didn't want his brother to buy into the company just for the reason that he didn't want for him to see how lazy he is. How can you trust someone that cant even take care of a company that just had it handed to him?!

The well that you had to replace, was drilled while the drilling rig you have running was having problems, that you was aware of and neglected. I had to go back and re-drill a well that you drilled because it was pumping dirty. As for your equipment not being run down, even you yourself said it needs to be updated, but the company cant afford it.

If things were just fine the way they were, then why did you wife have to have a new desk. I heard the comment from her that it was so that it could be more organized. Funny, it was just as unorganized as it was before the new desk. And my mother that worked there for 20 plus years used the same old desk, and never had an "organization problem", and at which time the company generated a lot more business It is called laziness. Which yes, laziness is a word that consistently comes up when this company or the owners is in question. Why is it that your vehicles were traded off so often, if things are just better left maintained. Fact is your the problem of the company!

So has the rotary table for the crane carrier rig been replaced yet? Probably not. Just a simple task of taking it to Oklahama and exchanging it for a new one, which you went to Oklahoma how many times since the rotary table went out? Oh, thats right it was to race your dragster, and pic up dragster parts on company time and money.Which by the way, do you know what it means to pay your bills? Your company went over a year without paying your petroleum supply company; B&P propane. Thats real responsible!


Three very dedicated employees that I know of left the company because the likes of you. Doesnt that tell you anything? You can file all of the rebuttals you feel necessary, fact is people are still going to the read this, and have concern for whether or not to hire this company. You can call me a liar. Its not lying when you speak your mind. In this country it is still a right to voice your opinion. It is called freedom of speech.

Even your employees you have dont respect you as stated before. The only reason they stayed is because they have bills to pay, and other responsibilities. Then you had to turn around and "buy" them, by which I mean giving them a raise. But in your defense, you need to buy your friends, so its understandable. It still doesnt buy you respect, which I know you do not have from them or they wouldnt say the things they do about you, your family, or the company.

Owner cant even be honest

Jim's right, I am an ex employee, and his nephew; which is nothing to brag about. But how can you accuse someone of stealing something when you gave it to the person. But I wouldnt expect him to remember that just for the simple fact that you could tell him there was problems with the equipment and he couldnt even remember.And heres the bad thing, I watched Jim Strader hide supplies that was shipped to his shop for another company that supplies him, and then act like he had no idea how they got taken out, and tried to tell the salesman it was a joke. Not to mention that he takes the companys money to pay for his own habbits, an $10,000 racing trailer for his over priced barley useable sand dragster, paying for labor done to his own person equipment. The list goes on and, but its all good, cause hes running the company into the ground, and a lot of people see that. If you dont believe me contact Gross constuction, he will definatley tell you the truth. And the funny thing is, even his own sales man, that is such great buddies with him tells other companies how hes runniing the company down.

I got fired because I spoke my mind, and told his mommy how him and his fat *&* wife was spending company money. Jims 40 going on 6 months old, and still suckin his moms tit. Jims rig was maintained to the best of me and my crews ability. He was told of problems, and just shrugged them off because he was more interested in just sitting on his a*s, going on vacations, and racing his p.o.s. dragster. Regardless, I quit 2 jobs to go work him, and this is the only job I have ever been fired from. Jim Strader couldnt even hold a job being a lube boy at Clark Chevrolet in town, and highly doubt if he has to find a new job after his company goes under that he would even be able to hold one, because hes a lazy *** that depends on everyone else to do his work. Oh, and by the way Jim, if your so highly respected, then why was it one of your employees that you still have pissed all over your front door when you left to go on your family vacation at the end of July? Thats funny right there!

Thanks for the response Jim! I hope you keep on responding, digging yourself even further, cause god nows.... You have no balls to say anything to anyones face.

This report was filed by a disgruntled employee. He was fired for a number of reasons.
One reason was we start at 7am, he would consistently show up late, sometime no at all. He could not produce much work as he generally would make sur to be in by 4:30 or 5. He will say to pick up his kids, but there were several options here. He would not perform regular service to the equipement. He will also say the equipment is run down, this would be due to a lack of daily service and grease on his part. I have found since then that hardly any of the daily service was happening. It is by no means new equipment but works fine if taken care of. He has been a thorn in our side before as he quit because he did not like the guys he was working with. Then he came back begging to work for us again.

The size of the holes drilled is another issue. We have a 12 inch he could of used.
I am by no means a perfect individual, but if you knew this guy you would have a better understanding as to the fact he has always been a habitual lyer. He has never kept a job very long and I gave him too many second chances.
You see, the guy is my nephew. He is the type that is always trying to cause trouble. I am missing several items around the shop and am sure he has some. One in particular is a self propelled push mower that I personally saw in the back of his truck. He tried to tell me I gave him one, but I never have.

I have also had to go back and repair or completely replace some wells. This could have been prevented simply by taking more time on the job, not the equipment.
