To whom it may concern:
Myself and family have been through pure heck every since I took a job in MN back in April 2001. From that point on everything went to heck. I went up ahead of the rest of the family while they attempted to sell the house in Alabama.
I got tired of waiting, so 8 months later they were there in MN and the house in Alabama still hadn't sold. I was; supposedly on a 6 year contract min, everything was looking good, so since it was cheaper to buy than rent, we closed on a house the end of January 2002. Also during this timeframe I was in a Panic mode with the house in Alabama still not selling and then the lay off. Things got bad.
I saw an ad in the Army Times about a company that offered cash up front for so many months of a military retirees pension. I did 22 years in the military. At any rate, like I said I was panicky, on medication and saw a way that maybe we could stay afloat. I got cash up front and ended up spending it all on mortgages and everything else to try and keep the family going. Well it was all gone and I am out $1214 per month for 10 years, or about $150,000 for $50K.
There are case actions going on businesses that do this and they also attempt to fraudulently lure you in apparent association with the military, with names like Retired Military Financial Services (RMFS). They are suppose to be illegal. Check out their web site and you will see what I mean. www.milpension.com Well in July 2002 we received a notice saying the a contract had been cancelled by Secretary Rumsfeld, so we were out of a job. So here we sat with two mortgage payments, 2 car payments, 6 dependents and no job. I had until September, so we actually stayed until December trying to find work. During that stay prior to leaving we had a daughter that was assaulted in Minneapolis and a 2 year trial followed. We left December 24, 2002, so we were driving this day as well as Christmas Day heading back to Huntsville.
We arrived back in Huntsville, the house in Alabama was on the market for 18 months and hadn't sold, so at least we had a house to come back to. Had to file a Chapter 13 to stop foreclosure proceedings on it and the house in MN was given back to the mortgage company. I looked for work, was rehired in December 2003 and was laid off again in July 2004. I had a heart attack and we were still trying to be able to keep our house, but was losing that battle as well. I was re-employed once again in Jan 2005 and I am still here.
