On December 7th 2009 I made an online purchase trough studentuniverse.com and spoke via phone with a representative to finalize the purchase.  I acquired a round trip for a study abroad program in Seville Spain.  I was schedule departure January 19th from Orlando FL to Seville to return on Monday may 17th .

In the middle of April I received an email notifying me of a supposedly a minor change on my schedule.  I arrived at the airport on the 17th and to my surprise there had been mayor changes from the amount of suitcases to the time for boarding.  As a student who got to study abroad on a Scholarship I have no money for expensive trips and leisure so I when to the airport with the idea that my ticket was paid and everything was correct but to my surprise the counter agent ask me to paid for extra bag and for extra weight.  I informed the agent I did not have money and that I was not aware of any changes since I traveled on January.    The agent told me that the company that I purchase the tickets from had screw up my fly.  They schedule me to leave Seville on the 17th at 1030 am and it takes 1hour and few minutes to arrive to Madrid.  After that I was suppose to take a connecting fly in Madrid to Forth Dallas, Texas at 12.10 pm leaving a window of 30 minutes to get to the other plain.  The fly was delay and my suitcases were not send to my final destination so I had to make a claim for it and when I arrive to the counter they advice me I could no longer get in the plane because obviously it was gone already.  The horrible part is there would not re-schedule me for a return fly until the next day more than 24 hours further and if I wanted to leave early I need it to pay a lot of money.  I contacted student Universe via email and phone and all they did was to tell me I lost the fly so I have to stay stranded in Madrid for more that a day unless I pay and to make matters worse the insurance company that they promote toll me that they do not have the emergency service they so much promote and that I have to paid for hotel and anything else out of packet and submit a claim.  I called them again and toll them to put me on standby and they said I have to pay.  As I seat here in the cold floor of the airport I remember how much I been screw by the big corporations and how the fact that I am student and have not money allow this company to take advantage of me.  Please help me to get some time of compensation for my suffering, my expenses, and time lost.  I am a freelance journalist and I will make sure to write an article about it and the whole world will know however what is fair must be fair and this company false advertise their services and did not help me in my time of need.  My family also suffer, worry about me and not knowing when I was going home.  Thanks in advance for your help and attention to this matter :D

Truly

Marisol

You should rethink your complaint

AUTHOR: rdebe7 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, May 17, 2010

After reading your complaint, it looks like you should be writting this report about the airline not Studentuniverse. I am sorry your in the situation your in but it is not studentuniverse's policy regarding your luggage weight, the amount of luggage you carry or even what time you board. Nor is it their fault that your flight was delayed and your luggage was not carried forward. When you agreed to your flights you agreed to these times, you were not forced to accept these times and could have had a longer lay over. It looks to me as studentuniverse did their job, they warned you of the new changes the airline had made in the middle of April and you chose to ignore them. Anyone who flies will tell you that an overweight bag costs extra money as well as an extra bag. I feel your ignorance is what has you in the position you are in and not this company. What I find interesting is you never once menetion anything about which airline.
