I just received a letter from SMT stating that they are contract by Advantage Rent a Car to collect damages caused by a hail storm in April of 2008. First I returned the rental car in the same condition as the day I drove the car off the car rental company lot. Second I never received a phone call, letter, or email from Advantage stating their claim. It was a total shock to me when I received the letter from SMT that they are collecting on behave of Advantage Rent a Car. I received this letter on 7-7-08, more than 3 months has passed since the alleged damages to the car. I plan to dispute these charges. I am contacting my insurace company and legal counsel for my options. I would appleciate any kind of advise anybody might have.
Thank you.

they always do a "condition inspection". You should have a copy of it. If their inspection does not have :hail damage" then you should tell this Collection Agency to stuff it.
Even if it does, you are responsible for damage caused by your driving (read that collision damage), not the weather.
