since October 2013 untill february 2014 I have spent over 3000.00 (3042.56) in propane. we only use it for heating. everytime I called to order it I was quoted one price, but by the time it was delivered the price had changed (not just a little) I was spending every other paycheck on propane. The whole paycheck basically. every time I got a delivery I was charged 9.62 Safety P&T fee, & 1.35 Transportation so that alone is 54.85. the prices have gone up evertime 3.54 a gallon october, 3.749 nov, 3.949 dec, 4.149 january (each month a $.20 a gallon) 4.499 in feb a $.35 a gallon increase in one month, but $1.15 per gallon increase since october? or Oh and I also get charge a late fee if I didn't pay the bill right away. My problem is that my whole paycheck was going to propane (thank goodness we don't cook with it) & by the time it was delivered the cost was increased & my next paycheck went to pay bills, buy groceries etc, so I had to wait till then next time I ordered propane to catch the balance due. so there was a late charge, or they wouldn't get my delivery to me before there was a late charge.
In october when I ordered it I could get it delivered with in 3 days, no matter what day I ordered itbecause there was a truck the area 2 times a week, but in feb when I ordered it it took 7 days for a delivery, guess what? I had a late charge. when I called and complained about no delivery, I was told we dont know when we will be able to deliver it, but it wont be today. after I called 3 times questioning when it would be delivered & complained on the price increase, I was give a credit of 20,00 yay, but we had shut the furnace off because if we ran out there is a 35.00 or 50.00 fee for priming the tank. our gauges have not worked since the first year we had the tanks. so I wasn't sure how much propane we had left. the nice lady on the phone said take hot water out & dump over the tank, which tank I asked, both she said. propane is cold & if you dump hot water over the tank, it will show you a frost line & you will know how much is in the tank......which is fine if I knew how much we used each time the furnace ran or each day. oh I needed to carry hot water to the tanks & dump it over them while truding through almost 3 feet of snow? because when I ordered the propane I shoveled to the tanks but in the last 7 days it had snowed that much & we had no propane to warm me up if i went out and shoveled. But I could have got an emergency delivery for an extra 75.00 .
My disabled mother 73 years old with heart problems was in the house with only electric heaters because, 1 the gauges are faulty, 2 it has been 7 days since i ordered propane, 3 you havent decided to deliver my propane (probablly because it hasnt been long enough to charge a late fee yet). I also get charged 10.00 a year rental on tanks that I use for maybe 6 months out of the year. the same tanks that has a faulty gauge that has been reported every year. Suburban propane rips people off, it all starts at the end of the 2nd year that you are their customer. The first year you are locked in at a set price. But they make up for it later by over charging. other companies in my areas propane was not this high. by October I will have another propane company.!!!!

Possibly Change Propane Suppliers?

Dear Tina, Why can't you just purchase your propane from the same company which provides it to your friend ($350 plus 50 gallons more)?
If Suburban propane is truely price gouging, then vote with your wallet and use the competition's product and services.
I'm not saying this situation is your fault, but if you are able to use an aternative and chose not to, then that would be your fault. Hopeful for a solution and a short spring.

prices are rising

I understand prices rise, but not to that extent, not when other companies in our area didn't jump that much.....I researched it. as far as your comment of getting a bigger paycheck, you come to our area & find a bigger paycheck, I am a single parent, taking care of a disabled elderly parent, I do not have the option to pick up a sencond job. I make more than minimum wage (by dollars nor cents) I do get child support (so dont blame my childs father) I work as much overtime as I can, but when I am dishing out 700.00 every month on propane, it is alot. I do not have the option to change heat sources since I put in the propane furnace 4 years ago. Unless of course you want to purchase it for me. I do not want a free ride, I just want to be treated fairly. The week that my propane delivery was 708.00 a coworker got propane delivered & theirs was 350.00. Mine was double that. She pays everytime it is delivered as I do. she was not locked into a special price & she got 50 gallon more than me. She just has a different company & appearantly a cheaper company. Shame on you for assuming that this is my fault and judging me without knowing my situation. Suburban is price gouging like it or not!!!

Propane Prices are Rising

The individual complaining about price giuging in Butler, Pennsylvania seems to complain about his entire paycheck goin towards propane. The comments ignore the reality that propaner is a commodity the price of which is determined by supply and demand. There has been a tremendous increase in demand this winter, owing to a colder than normal winter. This causes prices to rise.
Suggestion: get a bigger paycheck and/or stop using propane.
