I am the victim of car dealer ship corruption. In January of this year, Me and my Wife, went out with our new baby looking for a good reliable car to replace our dying unsafe Dodge Durango that had many issues. We were set on the car we wanted, we wanted a ford fusion. This may have been our fatal flaw. We went to Sullivan Brothers Used Vehicle Outlet, hoping they had a first time buyer's deal or something. We found a great looking 2007 Ford Fusion, for $14,000. This was the retail price of the car by KBB at the time. But we were given no deals.

We tried to get the car using my wifes parents as co signers. But they were shooed away, and Sullivan brothers claimed they had bad credit so that option was out of the question. Then me and my wife tried to buy it together, and have either me, or her as the co signer. But, they claimed she didnt have any credit! Even though she was the only one with a real job, and had been working their longer than me! ( She works at walmart and has been since september 2009, I work with her farther to help him out in his old age and in return he helps us with giving me money to help pay bills and food and such)

Sullivan Brothers claimed I had the best credit out of all four of us, and I was the ONLY person who could get "approved for the car". Now if that doesnt make sense, dont be alarmed it still doesnt. We took a few days, to think about it and then Sullivan Brothers Called us, and said we need a deposit on the car, otherwise we wont do business with you. Knowing we didnt have much cash at the time, we signed the title of our old car over to them, as a deposit until we could get more money, for a down payment.

Thats where they had us... all i wanted was a safe car that my daughter can drive as her first when shes older.. little did i know the trouble i would get myself into.We should never had done it! Because after we had our mechanic inspect the car he found many defects as well as serious damage to the frame of the car from a previous accident! But It was too late to back out of the deal. They told us if we backed out they would keep our car!!!!! I was appalled! And decided to go through with it to not make trouble. Well, as we got farther into the deal, they gave me to their financial assisstant.

And the best they could do was 8.67% apr on the car and it was only because Mr. Sulivan HIMSELF approved the deal. What I didnt know was the trouble i would get into. The financial assiasstant asked us to forge documents saying I made more money than I actually DID and all with the threat of not getting our car back! And threatened if we tried, they would sue us!? He did this until i had to lie and say i made $1400 month in order to be able to buy the car, even forcing my father in law to sign them, just so we can get a car!

Well after they finally approved me, they said Okay Jonathan, we are ready for you to sign the papers to get your car, they FORCED me to buy gap insurance, because im "high risk" and other plans which flipped onto my bill totaling $24,000 over ten grand more than the original purchase price!!!!! Once agian this was with the threat of being sued, taking our car, and being reported to the consumer agency, All i can think is this is more of a mob than a car dealership!! All of this knowing im 19, just got married and had a child, where is the humanity in all of this?

Well I finally was forced to sign all the papers and got my car, defects and all. My mechanic told them the car wont pass inspection, because the windshield tint was too low, but it can still pass even with the other defects, (and when someone backed into my car and i had it repaired i learned that Sullivan Brothers put the wrong trunk on my car, as well as faulted the wiring and caused my rear right blinker bulb to malfunction). They gave me complementary inspection at a local gas station they were in cahoots with.

And I told the inspector will this pass my windshield tint is too low, he said no i would have to leave with a rejected sticker. When i told him it was from sullivans brothers and i just bought it his attitude completely changed and my car miraculously passed with flying colors. (Local shell station across the ways from sullivan brothers in hanover). Not only that but when i looked at the mileage gauge it had 120 miles more than when i first looked at it, and they put this down on my papers, and kept falsifieng the numbers knowing it.

So instead of a better gaurenteed warrenty, i got the LOWEST warrenty available, (1200 miles) JUST because it was 120 miles over the 80,000 mile marker. I cant believe i let my self fall into such a fraud deal and let them steal from me and my family. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN, and more should be done to protect consumers like me from being swindled out of every cent i have. I have never missed a payment and dont plan on it, just because I got cheated doesnt mean im going to let them ruin my credit and my family. I work vigourously to pay this overwhelming debt.

Never pay a deposit without receiving a Bill of Sale [at that time] because the seller may take the opportunity to alter the terms of the unwritten agreement. Now you know.

Since, as you mentioned, you were "Forced" to sign the papers...

" they FORCED me to buy gap insurance.."

Since they "forced" you, notify your states commission regulating car dealers, the BBB, the FTC and local news media.

If they really didn't "force" you, you've learned a valuable lesson.

Good luck with your future.
