I adopted my first horse in October of 2007. It was a dream come true. I went and test rode him and absolutely fell in love with this horse. He was a dream come true till i took him off the trailer at home.

The first day I rode him at home was a a horrific experience, I have fallen off horses tons of time but this was the first time I thought I would actually die. He flipped out and dug at the ground where I was laying. Rearing up and kicking and causing all kinds of chaos. It took me 20 minutes to get near him and un tack him.

I figured it was just new jitters with him, so i did some ground work with him and thought it was working. 2 weeks later i went to take him out of the stall and as soon as he got out side , he reared up and while i was holding the lead rope. He tore off and then turned around and charged me. It took me 30 minutes to catch him.

I was giving him less protein then what the adoption agency was giving him, so i know he wasn't high or anything.

When we adopted him , my boss wanted a good trail horse and she adopted one as well. The mare she adopted was supposed to be 11 and in good health.

When we got her him she turned out to be 22 , an ex race horse and has wheezing problems. She payed 1500 for the adoption of the mare.

When my boss confronted Elena (the adoption agency owner) she said she would refund half of her money.

She also told us she would wait 30 days before cashing out checks, SHE LIED , she cashed them the same day we picked up the horses. My check bounced since i hadn't transfered the money, my boss on the other hand lost all of her money.

She also made it clear she would be there when i picked up the two horse but she wasn't and she made it clear she would be there when we dropped my gelding off and she wasn't. She is a lier and is out for money.

She gave us an old horse that is basically a child's horse and a horse that is so crazy he could kill someone easily. She forgot to mention that the gelding i got was high strung and had extreme anxiety problems.

My boss LOST all of her money and STILL has the horse!!!!!!!

Elena refuses to answer any emails or make any type of amends.

I sent a bounce check fee to her , just to make amends and she refused to cash it and when i contacted her about it , she was extremely rude and hung the phone up on me.

BEWARE OF THIS WOMAN SHE IS A LIER AND DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOUR WELL BEING. I COULD OF SERIOUSLY BEEN INJURED AND ALL SHE COULD DO IT TAKE WHAT SHE COULD GET AND RUIN MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH MY FIRST HORSE.

Summer Winds Stable

The first rule is just because it's on the Internet doesn't mean it's TRUE!

The first rules of Internet posting are always save a draft of a letter written in anger and wait a day before you post it.

As a satisfied adopter of the SUMMER WINDS STABLE may I point out a few contradictions from Oj121? There is no predictor of how a horse is going to react to any given situation, no matter how long of a test ride you gave him at his Summer Winds home where he had grown to be comfortable and feel safe. Why you decided to do ground work after being thrown is amazing. Perhaps a solid groundwork foundation before riding him would have given your horse the opportunity to impress you instead of disappointing you.

The ADOPTION FEE is a DONATION to care for and save additional horses. Would you ask the RED CROSS to refund part of your donation because you didn't think the hurricane was severe enough?

No matter what deal you felt you had arranged, writing and passing a check that cannot be funded is FRAUD! I mean that in the criminal (felony) sense, not the moral sense.

As for Reputable, any horse without a good home is in need of rescue. Ask any horse standing in a kill pen, no matter how healthy, if he needs rescuing I can assure you the answer will be a vocal Hay YES!. Auction is just a word used because slaughter makes people uncomfortable giving up on their horses.

Before anyone makes any judgment about adopting a horse from the SUMMER WINDS STABLE take time to visit this farm and try to find 1 unhappy horse! My adoption experience with the SUMMER WINDS and Elena could not have been more POSITIVE! Our guy we adopted is AWESOME and in the near future we will be getting a pasture buddy / husband horse from Elena as well.

The last rule of the Internet, if you want to call someone a name, at least have the common courtesy to spell check it.

#4 REBUTTAL Owner of company

BEWARE: These folks should not adopt horses!

AUTHOR: The Summerwinds Stables - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 29, 2008

I am the owner of the SummerWinds Stables, a non-profit equine rescue and outreach center. Our facility operates only on grants and donations, and we strive to rescue horses from abuse or neglect, and we also take horses from auction or race tracks and retrain them. Our horses are then evaluated, worked with, rehabilitated, and given every possible opportunity to find new, loving homes.

We thought this adopter met our adoption standards. The horse she chose was a 6 year old horse, retrained, Secretariat lineage. In a nutshell, he was beautiful and very well trained - small children could ride him. She rode him at our farm and he did very well. When she took him home, there was a problem - the horse scared her once and she gave up on him. She returned the horse to us within 30 days and no money was exchanged. This horse is now a hunter/jumper show horse at a local barn and doing very well.

The second horse that was adopted was a lovely mare. They wanted a safe, trail horse and this horse fit the bill. She is kind, slow and very eaager to please. Our dentist checked this horse and aged her at 11. They rode this mare, and agreed that she was a wonderful choice. Unfortunately, after the trial period ended, they decided that they wanted half of their money back, which is not something we negotiate. We are a non-profit and all donations go toward helping other horses in our care or those needing a safe haven. We told her to return the mare and we would refund her ENTIRE adoption fee. To date, we have not heard from her.

We tried calling but to no avail. Our organization thrives on helping horses find new, loving homes. In this case, lack of communication was the cause of much upset. We are thankful to have gotten our TB back so that he could find a new, loving home.
