April 22, 2020 my provider order a C-pap after I received a moderate sleep apnea report. The machine did not arrive for 10 days "after the billing date". Due to COVID-19 issues, I set up the machine once I received it in the mail and tried to follow instructions. I had nothing but issues. It did not fit, kept falling off while I was tryibng to sleep. I called for a different mask. I had to show up for a fitting. They would not send you one. I showed up for a "fitting"and the person saw me from afar and guessed at the mask size that might work (due to COVID-19, wearing masks and being at a 6 foot distance).
I tried the new mask and a few weeks later hospitalized for another issue. All said and done Summit Respiratory called today and told me "you have not been compliant for 90 days and you must send the machine back and start over. That means scheduling an appointment with my provider ($147), getting an order, having another sleep study ($550), and then starting from scratch with Summit Respiratory ($500 deposit).
I already paid for a doctor visit, a sleep study, and the deposit with Summit Respiratory. I called to explain and it did not matter. Valerie at Summit Respiratory kept saying "you must come to our office and return the machine". No regards for never getting one-on-one training with a Respiratory Therapist for set up (which was billed to the insurance). Never got a correct fitting for a mask due to COVID-19. All Valerie repeated was "patient must wear machine for 90 does or they are out of compliance". She did not care I was in the hospital for a period of time or that I had no idea about a compliance issue which she blamed on the insurance company which was a lie.
I called UHC and they states that "their DME equipment" has no such policy for a 90 day compliance. My insurance company said to file an appeal and a complaint letter with Summit Respiratory.
Be careful with these guys. Do not accept a machine being mailed to you without proper training. Have them explain compliance. I have paid over $500 dollars and now am sending the machine back. Then told to start over. I see this as a scam.
I went on line at cpap.com and there are machines for under $400.00. Go that route.
