To all drivers in the Riverview, FL area, steer clear of Sunrise Auto Services. The 3 people that run that facility collaborated to try to rip me off with a brake job I had done there 4/8/10. They are located at the intersection of Riverview Dr. & US 301, at 8017 US 301 S. Riverview, FL 33578-4354, ph# 816-677-5335 -they are also a U-Haul rental outlet; I also notified U-haul that they should remove affiliation with these people.
The mechanic is named Steve (I only have first names for all), the office is run by Joanne and her son Carey or Gary. I believe the main master-of-disaster mind of the three is the son, Carey (or Gary); I Have been over charged from him before.
The mechanic installed, what I can only hope are, new brakes/shoes and turned my rotars. He had previously told me I needed to replace my rear brakes; if I bought them from an auto parts store he would install them & only charge me for labor (& if he had to turn the rotars). -That's what I did, I trustingly handed him my newly bought rear brake kit & left my car with him (I'd used him before). I received a phone call from Joanne, she told me I also needed front brakes and all 4 rotars turned -I reluctantly agreed, because I had no idea what was in store for me -but, I relied on them to tell me the truth (I've been going there for quite some time, as well as my parents).
When I picked my car up/drove off the lot, my front end shook terribly & there were horrible noises coming from my brakes. I made a u-turn & drove it right back there -they no doubtly were expecting me. Steve (the mechanic) got in the car with me to listen & experience what I told him the car was doing, he acted like he didn't know what could be causing it, but it was obvious it was coming from the front driver side. He took that tire back off to see if he could see anything wrong -of course he didn't.
While I was (originally) waiting in the office to pay, Joann made a mysterious phone call, I "figured" it was to her son. When the mechanic said he didn't know what was causing the problem, Carey (the son) had to drive it to tell HIM -I then knew something was up & the code word was "Hitch" that's what she told her son when she called him, she said "the hitch is here". So he came right over.
Carey (or Gary)drove my car & also acted like he didn't know what was causing the problem -he was driving down 301 & pulling on the emergency brake & was acting befuddled, like he was concerned "what was causing this". He said that kinda sounds like the tires -I told him, well these tires are pretty new & I BOUGHT THEM FROM YOU!
We got back to the garage, the mechanic took the tire off again, Carey was back & forth inside the office & out with the mechanic -after the three of them discussed & deliberated for a while, he decided to "confess" that the mechanic did not replace the tire correctly / didn't tighten the bolts properly. Now we are talking taking the tire off & on 2 or 3 times, HOW COULD HE NOT PUT THE TIRE ON PROPERLY ALL THOSE TIMES?? He, like I said, installed the very tires I'm using right now + I've purchased some in the past.
They were playing this "I don't know what that is coming from" game with me until they realized they weren't going to be able to get away with trying to stick me with some bogus service/added charge -I don't know if it was because of (A) my attitude -BECAUSE I WAS VERY SUSPICIOUS (BUT ALSO VERY SCARED), (b) the fact that I bought the tires recently from them (so they couldn't blame bad tires) or (C) I PAID WITH A CHECK THAT COULD BE STOPPED If I was unhappy with the sevice - that made them "change their mind" (i think the 3 of them share 1 brain) and confess, but they decided to tighten my tires properly & gave me my keys back.
I was told that eventually my tire (or tires) would've totally loosened & fell off. As of today (4/9/10), I don't know if I even got new brake pads including the ones I originally purchased from the auto parts store, but I do know, my brakes are still making a grinding noise and I never want them touching my car again! I paid a total of $241.82 (including tax, + the original $42.79 for the (rear)brake kit + I, at first, was so relieved that they weren't charging me anymore, i evened the check out to incl a tip)
