In Nov./09, my girlfriend & i went to Cancun. we attended a timeshare presentation. they told me their policy prohibited them from selling a timeshare to me without my husband. yet they persisted when they saw i was interested.

after hours of trying toget me to sign, we left. we were pursued by a salesman who tried to sweeten the deal. he was worried he'd get in trouble if i did not reconsider.

we went back. i finally agreed with the understanding that if, when i got home, my husband vetoed the deal, they would return my deposit.

they wanted a $3000 deposit. i told them i only had $1000 available on my credit card.unbeknownst to my girlfriend, they put the $3000 deposit on HER credit card, TWICE! she fought hard to get it reversed. then they agreed to lower my deposit to $995 US.

so, i signed the deal with the understanding that i would get my money back if my husband did not agree. he was furious when i got home & asked to cancel.

when i contacted the company from home to cancel, i got the classic runaround.

it took several days of phone calls & e-mails as they tried to sweeten the deal further. they lowered the price, added perks to the timeshare, reduced the interest rate, etc. this took time. wedid thinkabout the even better deal they were offering but in the end i insisted on my refund.

by this time the response was that i had exceeded the 15 days grace period& was bound to the agreement ... they threatened to sue me. they never said a thing about a grace period. despite the time it took, i still believed they would honour their agreement to refund if my husband insisted.

months passed as i tried in vain to communicate with them. i reminded them of their "only with a spouse policy" & that i was pressured & bullied by several different people into agreeing & i reminded them that i was promised a refund if my husband did not agree.

i also reminded them of their own company policy & that they should have never pursued me as a prospect the moment i told them that my husband was not with me ... and then to have the nerve to tell me i had exceeded the 15 days grace period, all the while knowing that it was their stall tactics during those 15 days (sweetening, thinkng about it, & more sweetening & thinking) that had caused me to miss the deadline.

over the next few months i tried again & again to no avail. of course they did not sue.

i filed two complaints with the international BBB but never heard back.

... and then i stumbled upon your website.i believe they purposely vilolated their own policy because they planned to stall me with repeated deal-sweeteners when i got home in order to get past the grace period. i wonder how many times they've done this.

thank you.

No problems at all

I'm sorry to hear of your problems. I had just the opposite circumstance. My wife and I attended a presentation that was not that high pressure (of course, I'm in sales so maybe I'm just used to it). We signed but on our return realized we had some unexpected financial obligations. I sent them emails and Fedex'd my cancellation to all addresses and emails I could find. Sure it took a little prodding, but no one wants to give up a sale, so I expected a little push back; however, they cancelled my contract and are sending my deposit back. They were very professional about it. If you follow Mexican law (which is 5 days...not 15) and THEIR procedures, I think most get satisfaction.

I'm not saying you're situation is ok...just that they were great with me.

The Scam continues

i've rec'd a call from a "company" that says they know about my timeshare & would i be interested in leasing 6 weeks at $3500/wk ... this, despite the fact that i never paid for the timeshare ... only a deposit of $995.

somehow this did not matter to the caller from Nationalwide something or other who claims to be Russ Greene @ 1-888-623-5070 ext.111. all he needed from me was a 10% admin fee, now, on my credit card ... i refused until i got more info.

this would amount to $2100 & in return, in 3 to 6 months, i would receive a cheque for $21k ... yeah, right ... the timeshare didn't even sell for that much.

he said to expect a confirmation e-mail within minutes ... that was yesteday ... still no e-mail ... and he didn't get my credit card info.

i suspect that the people at sunset resorts sell such info to others so thay can try & scam people who lost their deposits.
