Where should I start? I used to work for these guys. I knew how terrible the car sales world was but I assumed that since I worked for Surprise Ford I figured that they would give me a “pass” from all of the lies and tricks that I always found incredibly annoying.

I called one of the sales guys that I knew from working there (A guy named Jake) and told them that I wanted to buy my car out of lease. I was thinking I mind as well give them the commission since I knew them at Surprise Ford. I went there thinking I was going to help them out. So I went in there and sat down with the finance guy and told him that I want a Warranty.

My car has 60,000 miles and I wanted to Warranty it to 120,000 miles and I wanted to pay $2400 for the warrany. I told him that I already have a deal cooking with Bell Ford for $2350 which is actually $50 dollars less. I told them that if they do it for $2400, we got a deal. This way I don’t have to drive to Bell Ford and I rather Surprise Ford get the money since I knew them and I felt that I had a relationship with them and they deserve my business.

I also told them that I will pay the $500 document fee, taxes and the price of the car. He said great! So we began to draft up all the papers. During this time he tells me that my rate was 3.99% to finance the car. I filled out stacks of paperwork. I had to drive home and get my father, and I had to get my two toddler children and then I waited, wait, and waited.  I spent nearly 5 hours dealing with all of this.  Meanwhile it was supposed to be quick and easy.  What I later determined is that they were probably trying to get me tired an worn out from waiting,  this way, when they pull out the contract I would be too tired to read the contract and I would just sign.  The scam that they were trying to do to me was incredibly insulting.

So then, after all the talking and understanding that we had. They pull out the big three foot contract and on the contract it says. 36,000 mile warranty instead of the 120,000 mile warranty.  Also, they changed the price from $2400 to $3900 for less than half the miles.  Also instead of it being $500 doc fee it was like $900 plus all other kinds of Bullshit on there. Also the rate suddenly went from 3.99% to 5.99% He hands me the pen like I wasn’t going to read the thing asks me to sign it. I looked at the guy and said WTF is THIS? He said “oh” Rob Hubler (at 623-666-8577) the general manager the GM says that he wants to charge me more because  he wants to get more money out of me.  I was completely shocked ! The opening sentence that had when I entered the door and the 3 conversations on the phone meant nothing.  The whole reason why I was there was based on the agreement that we made.  Why did they agree to pricing if they had no intentions on meeting there end of the deal? only to try to change all the numbers at the end?

I walked my a*s right into his office and politely told him to kiss my a*s.. it was incredibly insulting that I make a deal only for them to just randomly change the numbers to whatever they wanted. You don’t make a deal with somebody, then just change the numbers after. They re-neged on the deal at the end right before signing. I remember them doing things like this to customers while I worked there. It’s a scam that works all the time. They are hoping that I am emotionally attached to the car and that I really want it. Plus I invested all this time filling out paperwork. That I am not going to turn back near the end. So I would have been willing to sign anything.

What Rob failed to realize is that I am buying my car out of lease. It’s my own car in my own eyes. I’m not going to fall in love with my own car while buying it out of lease. It was super bad business. It was not good sportsmanship. There are other ways and other tactics that he could have used to get more money out of me. The route he chose was almost childish and extremely novice for a man that apparently has been ripping people off since birth. He needs to be a lot craftier than the performance that I have seen from him. Also, he should have sized me up a little better. He should have known that, I too, have been in business my whole life. And to use such an amateur technique on me is almost a joke!
