Sungyul Choi (Profile Picture) and Erica Choi (picture below), are a father and daughter con-artist, scammer tag-team duo. Their company, SYC Construction (License # 602717) is a California based construction company responsible for swindling over $1 million from nearly three dozen victims across Southern California. They would approach their victims after house fires and other catastrophes when they knew their victims were at their weakest and most vulnerable moment. Once they received the contract to rebuild the home, they’d strategically place workers and material on-site to create the illusion of work being done. This farce would go on for weeks until they convinced their victims to fork over at least 70% to 80% of the job’s required budget; once received, they’d load up and find the next victim.

The reasoning behind this scam was simple, make money and lots of it. During the peak of this scam, Erica Choi was attending UC Davis without the aid of student loans. Attending UC Davis was not cheap, so she decided to team-up with her father and aggressively swindle double the amount of victims her father was already scamming. Her father, Sungyul Choi, was already making a living swindling victims through his construction company, SYC, implementing similar tactics on the elderly and local Asian communities and the money kept coming. Erica would pay for her tuition and her father, Sungyul Choi would use his share to hire underage Korean prostitutes smuggled illegally into the United States and forced to work at local massage parlors and Korean drinking establishments.

However, the law was finally catching up to their scam and Erica and her father were forced to go into hiding. They continued to steal money, only not from random victims but from family members. They stole over $20,000 from their elderly auntie, backstabbed other nephews and cousins in business deals leaving a wake of shattered lives, shattered reputations and broken dreams; entire life savings were stolen for the sake of Erica’s uncompromising wish to attend UC Davis and her father’s pedophilic sexual appetite. But burning all your bridges, stealing from everyone you know can only get you so far. Erica Choi was forced to drop out of UC Davis and later attended UC Riverside once the money ran out. Her father, Sungyul Choi eventually had his construction license revoked by the state of California and currently working as an unlicensed contractor. Be wary of these individuals. They are extremely manipulative—narcissistic.
