In December 2002 I purchased 2 copies of Norton System Works 2002. Each was sold to me with a $30.00 upgrade rebate. SoftwareOutlet.com, sold me the Norton for $35, and included 2 cd's of an outdated competitive product that I could submit to Symantec as evidence of an upgrade.

Both rebate forms were filled out completely and properly. They were mailed in January, 3 months before the end of the rebate promotion.

Last week, 5 months after submitting my request, Symnatec sends me 2 postcards stating I had submitted the request after the end of the promotion.

I will be sending a report to the BBB and to the FTC. By the way, 2 weeks ago the FTC came down with major fines on 2 national companies for rebate fraud. I am will research the story and add it here.

Symantec provided a feed back line which is automated that promises a call back in 24 hours. Nothing.

I smell major fraud here. I'm out $60.00. How many others just like me?? I will pursue this.

Here is a happy part. I called the web retailer who sold me the product, SoftwareOutlet.com, they answered on the first ring. I ask if they had heard any complaints like mine. They said they had others complain about Symantec rebate denials but not with my reason. I asked what they suggested. They said the company is too big and ignores them and others. Then they asked me to hold while they verified my order. They came back in 2 minutes and said they had credited my credit card the $60.00.

This act of generosity and good business practice has blown me away. I did not ask for it they just did it.

I will be retelling this story where ever I can and giving praise to this small reseller.

SoftwareOutlet.com will be the first place I check from now on for any software I need.
