These people are the worst! Ms. Shy never appeared at our wedding reception, but sent her sullen, nasty son and a helper. She had initially approached us at a funeral, and offered to cater our reception FREE because my fiance's family knew her family. We agreed, set a menu, then she approached us just 2 weeks before the wedding about us paying for just the meat, which at that point then made the dinner over $16 a head. I was not happy, but did so, because by that point it was too late to schedule someone else and the invitations had already gone out.

Well, not only did she raise the price for this supposed "free" dinner twice, but she never showed up at the reception, sending her son and a helper instead. The food was TERRIBLE with watery salad, cold hard augratin potatoes and cold nearly raw chicken and beef. The son just stood around talking on his cell phone the whole time. I had been promised that they'd clean up, but they didn't. We gave the son and the helper a tip, and he was obviously expecting something more because he got mad and stormed out.

The son started calling us the next week, demanding more money as a tip. Each time, I demanded to speak to the mother, Syndi Shy, but she was always "out of the state". He threatened us, was verbally abusive and began following us. He actually followed us out of a store to the parking lot and drew back his fist like he was going to hit my husband. Believe it or not, we were stupid enough to hand the kid $50 just to get him to leave us alone. He then grabbed at my husband through the open car window, and when I demanded that his mother contact us, and he said "she's sick at home" and ran. I couldn't believe we'd been shaken down by this angry kid!

Then we watched the kid run to a car, and there was the mom in the driver's seat. She had actually put him up to all this shake-down mess and threats! I called her, and she made all these excuses about his father dying, and Syndi and the son owing a lot of bills, which made no sense to me, and said "well, since Brandon upset you, let's just call it even", like we were the ones in the wrong!

There is now a suit in the Franklin Co (OH) by the state's attorney general, as there have been so many complaints. The attorney general is quoted in the Columbus Dispatch 3/19/08 as saying "The Shys routinely changed the name of their business to confuse consumers and hit their poor reputation". Watch out -- she also goes by the name Syndrea Whetsel or Syndrea Whetsel Shy. Don't ever get caught up in their deceit!
