I received a message on my answering device to return a call to 800-580-8615. I called that number. A woman answered. She was calling about a debt for a car. The debt was two years old. I immediately hung up. I also received a collection notice from Synergetic Communication, INC.
I've been ripped off before. I am careful. I had no contact from them for a while. 11-29-09 another attempt to collect a debt letter arrived. I owed $14888.67
They were willing to settle for $4466.60. I called them at their 800 number. I was going to offer them $2000.00. Several days latter, I googled them. I found five complaints listed. The complaints basically followed my experience.
They called me back the next day. I asked the woman if she knew about the complaints on the internet. Of course, they denied any attempt to defraud me.
What to do? Synergetic Communication,Inc. is real. But are they for real? I decided to not pay this company any money. I resolved the conflict. I decided to wait and see if they take me to court. I'll take the printouts of the complaints. I'll show them to the judge, and let him/her decide. I'll let you know.
There are five complaints registered. Is tis a ripoff in progress?

Go Ahead Show the Judge and You'll Loose!

You stated, and I quote: "...I owed 14888.67...". If you owed this money and they decide to sue you, you can show the judge anything you want but you'll loose unless you can prove you don't owe the money.
A debt two years old is not unusual to be the object of collections efforts. They offered you a settlement of 4460 and change, which is a good deal if you owe the money.
For almost 15k they will probably sue. If they do and you loose, you'll pay that amount either thru garnishment, levies or other actions.
I have a feeling you know if you owe this debt. Failure to take their offer means you'll pass up a cheaper settlement.
