My husband and I bought the Tahiti Village Timeshare [every other year] back in late 06. At first we were denied credit as we went there just for the free perks, but they conned us into having some "magic paperwork" done.
[We both had bad credit scores and high DTI ratios]. The only paperwork we got at "closing" was a copy of the HUD, not a deed or any contract.
It is now a little over a year later, and financially we have hit rock bottom, with me being out of work. My husband has to work 80+ hours a week, and we still can't make ends meet. We are behind on all bills.
We actually have 3 timeshares, but Tahiti Village is the worst--- I just had to pay over $1300 to catch up on past due bills a good prtion of that was for 2-1 time fees- a transfer fee, and a general fund fee. [Mind you, I have every other year, and I've never even used this!]
For being only 2 days late on a payment, I get harassing phone calls--- and I made the mistake to answer one of them--only to tally up the calls in 1 day to over 11. Yes, 11 calls in 1 day. I have explicilty told them they were calling a cell phone number and my work number [which is true, I do not have a land line], yet I still get calls. I have "spiked" them about 85% of the time [answering then hanging up] so [hopefully] when I get my cell phone bill they will be documented.
We have tried giving these back [we own at Grandview Resorts as well-- a week that we can't use because we can't get off from work that time of year--it's State Fair time--] Not only would Grandview not give us another week, but neither of these companies will just take their property back--they can keep the $ I have invested-- we just want out. They won't do that. We will be taken to court for being in default, and having to pay the difference between what is owed and what they can re-sell the poperty for. [Not good--I've seen both of these on eBay for 1 cent each and not sell]
Just paying for these comes out to about $700/month that we can not afford. Being government workers, we have to keep these out of foreclosure, or risk losing our job[s].
So, buyer beware! You can get much better vacation deals online with a little research--you can even be a "proud" owner of a timeshare by purchasing a resale. Never ever buy retail--- if you can't afford it-- they will find a way.

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company
Are you Sure??

I have been a owner since 2002. I'm sorry that you have had all those problems, but the blame isn't on the company for your decisions. I know that the company is a very good company. They tell you many of the things you said you didn't know or understand before you signed. Then why did you sign!!!!
Why put your problems on them. Like you didn't know what you were getting in to?
Ya, right. You said you own two other timeshare weeks. Like DA. If you can't figure it out the first two times, then don't go trying to blame someone else for the third mistake!!!
You know what they say, the first time, shame on you, the second time shame on you, (meaning who ever is doing this to you.) The third time shame on me. Third strike, your out baby.

Here's What I did!

First of all, stop living beyond your means.
A time-share is a rip-off.
Why did you go to this presentation?
Was this the one where they promised you the free trip to Vegas and then they gave you all of the booze you wanted and made you feel fine so you signed the line?
First thing you do is figure out what you need for basic food, shelter and utilities and transportation.
EVERYTHING ELSE GOES!
Start by having your phone number changed to an unpublished, nonlisted telephone number and DO NOT GIVE IT OUT TO ANYONE WHO IS NOT AN EMPLOYER!
Same with your cell phones. In fact, you might want to go to a pre-paid call which will teach you how to prioritize your resources.
I can't believe you had such a hard time with the one time-share and then you bought another one! They are rip-offs.
Intimidation is a crook's stock in trade. Not another penny would I pay them! NOT ANOTHER CENT!
They can't harrass you on the phone...
When you change your phone number, contact the credit reporting agencies and have your accounts flagged for fraudulent activities which should keep these people from messing up your credit rating too much. With all of the identity theft that is rampant these days, this has become a common request.
Then you guys really do need to talk to a Bankruptcy attorney about a Reorganization. THIS IS NOT THE BUST OUT BANKRUPTCY
You might find that you signed the contract while intoxicated or under fraudulent misrepresentation and that the Reorganization attorney will help you clear out the debt.
NO MORE TIME SHARES! ORDINARY FOLKS CAN ONLY AFFORD ONE RESIDENCE AT A TIME!
You all want to save for YOUR retirement, not some slimy scumbag of a scam artist in Vegas...
