I left my pets with this lady when my husband and I moved to Italy in July of 2009. She advertised that she was a boarding facility who specialized in long term pet care for military members who were deploying or moving overseas.
The initial care was supposed to be for 1-3 months until my parents were able to pick up the animals and continue their care. I paid her a full 2 months in advance.
She was very nice when I talked to her. She said that none of the animals (2 cats, 3 paraqueets, and 2 rabbits) would be any problem. She had a lovely website www.yourpamperedpaws.com that showed pictures of animals supposedly in her care. She promised monthly pictures and regular updates. She said my animals would have their own room since she also had dogs and that would stop the dogs from being able to worry the cats and rabbits.
The first thing that should have clued me was that she wouldn't let me see where the pets were actually going to be kept. She said that was her private home and she didn't allow people back there. I should have left then.
The pictures didn't come. The updates were just - everyone is fine. The first month her camera was broken, the second month just sort of got ignored. The 3rd month I did get some pictures. The cats were held and cowering. The rabbits also held. No pictures of the birds.
By this time things had fallen through with my parents and I asked if the animals could continue to stay with her until we returned to the states (Jul 10). No problems she told me. Thats what she was there for.
I noticed at some point in Nov/Dec that the website was changed and she told me she was closing her business side and just going to the foster program through another website netpets.org. She also said she was continuing her commitment to her current fosters.
In December my requests for pictures were being ignored again. By this time I was getting really worried. Right after Christmas I started insisting on some pictures. The response I got was that the birds, didn't like the flash. The cats couldn't be found most the time and were hiding and the rabbits didn't like to be held. At this point she also told me I needed to find arrangements by Mar 15 as she was closing and going on vacation April 1.
I called a friend of mine and she agreed to take my pets. She called and made arrangements to get them. At this point my friend was told, one bird was dead and one cat was peeing all over the house, including the stovetop. I had not been informed of any of this. The cat should have been taken to the vet, and while I understand that in 5 months an animal, espcially a small bird, can die - I should have been told.
When my friend picked up my animals, one cat was soaking wet. Tanya had dumped her under the water since she was now peeing all over herself. Her quote to my friend was "he likes to piss on himself". There was no towel in the kennel and the cat was soaking (is this how a professional groomer sends an animal home in freezing weather?). The other cat was breathing heavily and shallowly. The rabbits were extremely skinny and sitting in one cage (there were 2 when I dropped them off) on paper with some pellets. The birds cage had also just been cleaned - they had no food or water and Tanya gave my friend the remains of some finch food.
Everybody was taken straight to the vets. (Countryside in Lowville). One cat was diagnosed with a severe UTI, the other cat has respiatory issues requiring steriods so far. The rabbits are underweight, upon inspection their cage was severly stained from not being cleaned, their food and water containers were actually moldy.
I would not under any circumstances leave my pets with this woman. I would not recommend anyone else do. The lady looking after my rabbits now, suspects they would have died from starvation had they been left until March. Goodness knows what would have happened to the cats. Who knows what happened to my other bird. Tanya said the birds bit her and she had to wear leather gloves to handle them - who knows what she was doing? They're paraqueets, my son has them perch on his finger and they dont even bite.
This lady should not be allowed to look after anyone's pets. If she's still got your animals then I recommend taking them out of there asap. I wouldn't use her so called grooming facilities either.

Wow. Let me address a few of these issues - Starting with the fact that I am not hiding who I am or pretending to be some factitious friend. The Lowville Countryside Vet examined my animals and Im sure they will verify their condition.
I was not told anything about an issue with a child until January after I had begun insisting on some photos of my animals. At this point, and never before, I was told that you had a sick child and wanted to take a vacation in April, therefore I should find something else for my animals by April. If you had said to me that care was unavailable due to a sick child I would have understood that. I took my animals out of there in January, 3 days after you sent that email.
Your business is supposed to be a Not For Profit Agency, catering to long term needs of deployed soldiers. Just because youre nonprofit, does this mean I shouldnt expect good care for my animals? I paid every month for all their expenses. I didnt complain when you put the price up. You made your business Non Profit.
I am the one that feeds Flint River Food. When I dropped the cats off, they had 2 bags with them. I offered to continue ordering that food. You said that since you were a dealer it would be easier for you to use your food which you assured me was as good quality as mine. I paid every month for all their expenses. I paid whatever the bill was that you forwarded to me every month.
I have 2 cancelled checks dated the day I dropped the animals off. I paid for two months in advance. So how could we have had a 15 day contract? Furthermore, you advertise yourself as long term care for soldiers pets. I dont know any soldiers that deploy for 15 days. We talked about the care lasting 1-3 months and possbily as long as 4. Again, it wasnt until January that any indication was given that you were having any problems caring for the pets.
I did receive one set of photos during the second month of their stay with you. Photos were something we had discussed would be forthcoming every month. I requested photos when I paid my bill each month. If I requested them again, it wasnt because I wanted pictures each week; it was because I didnt get any. One month you did say your camera broke. The next month I was promised them but they werent received. In January you said that the cats were under the bed, the birds were scared of the flash and the rabbits didnt like to be held. These were your reasons? This is what made me realize you didnt want me to see the condition of my animals.
As for your hard drive breaking I dont see how thats my problem? I also notice it didnt stop the bills from getting to me.
My friend does not talk in the manner you portray. She owns cats and many other animals herself. She would never ill-treat an animal.
I didnt know the cats had been kenneled. I have no problem with kennels so long as they are fed properly and taken to vet if needed. When I dropped them off I was told they were going in their own part of the house so they wouldnt be disturbed by dogs. If they had been to a vet you could have stopped any issues with peeing. I left my credit card information with the vet; it really shouldnt have been an issue.
I knew nothing about my sons bird dying until my friend arranged to pick the animals up. She then emailed me and let me know. I do still have all the emails I was sent by you and everything I sent to you. Its a bird; I understand that small animals do die. Sadly though, I believe this was due to neglect and apathy. I would love to see the bill from the exotic vet it was taken to. Where is the nearest exotic bird vet to Ft. Drum? Syracuse perhaps? A vet bill was something I was more than willing to pay for. I still am, if youd like to send it to me.
I hope that anyone reading this information will think twice before leaving any animal in the care of this person regardless of whether its for boarding or grooming. I believe I already showed in the first report the awful care that was shown to my pets. Her initial rebutal shows the person really has no care for animals at all. If there were legitimate reasons for the lack of care they would have been solved easily.
This is not somebody who should be dealing with animals. A search of rip-off report will show that she has other issues regarding puppy breeding.
